3.0 out of 5 stars A good bedtime story
In the second book of the Sam Krupnik series, Sam tries to make his mother a birthday present, with disastrous results. Young people will be entertained by the antics of Sam. Older readers will admire the author's ability to write in the first person with a true child's voice. This is a good book to read to kids at bedtime.

POP! I think this is a good book because it's rather cute and funny, like when Sam puts chicken noodle soup in his invention. The 'Sam'and 'Anastasia' books I can never put down because they're just so interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS BY LOIS LOWRY!!!!, March 13, 1999
By A Customer
In "Attaboy,Sam!", Lois Lowry captures the feelings and imagination of Sam Krupnik. When his mother's birthday comes up and he learns that her favorite perfume is no longer carried,he sets to work making some for her.It has captured the hearts of thousands of people, and I am one of them.It holds the interests of children, but many adults have enjoyed it too.I am in second grade, and once when I checked it out from the library,a boy kept pestering me about the grade level it was on.I think everyone should read it.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Attaboy, Sam! (Paperback)
Sam, a young child, is looking for a present for his mom. He decides that the is going to make his mom some perfume. The first thing that he has to find is a jar to put all the stuff in. He already has a problem finding that, so he has to ask his sister. Then he listens for his mom to say what kind of stuff she likes and then Sam goes and tries to find it. Sam puts everything from homemade chicken noodle soup to water from an aquarium. His sister is also trying to make a gift for their mom but she decided that she was going to write a poem. Every now and then she goes to Sam and reads it to him and Sam helps her change it around to make it sound better. One day while Sam was going to his neighbor's house he saw a box that had kittens in it. Sam looked at the kittens and then finally decided that he wanted one, but Sam didn't tell his parents that he got it. To keep it a secret Sam kept it in his room and didn't let anyone come in. Sam's dad and sister were all making homemade gifts because thats what Sam's mom had said that she wanted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attaboy Sam, June 9, 2000
By A Customer
Attaboy Sam is a book about a young boy named Sam who lives in Massachusetts. He tries to make a homemade gift for his mom's birthday because that's what his mom prefers. What should he make? The book is a hilarious account of Sam's attempt to come up with a perfect idea. The book, Attaboy Sam, is a good book and here are some of the reasons. It is full of laughter and hilarious adventure. It's funny because his parents and sister speak about things he doesn't understand and he thinks they have a different meaning. It's the sort of book that you can't put down because you have to know what's going to happen next. If you like exciting, funny and surprising books, you should read this and other stories in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hilarious and entertaining concoction!, July 1, 2001
By
This review is from: Attaboy, Sam! (Paperback)
I found "ATTABOY, SAM!" a great book! It was funny, entertaining and was written exactly how a 4-5 year old would see the world. Sam was hilarious, along with his preschool troupe. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a good laugh! Even if Sam's concoction(or perfume) didn't turn out great, it's funny how he goes about it!
