Great Resource for Parents and Teachers,

This review is from: Attachment in the Classroom: The Links Between Children's Early Experience, Emotional Well-being and Performance in School (Paperback)
I'm surprised this book hasn't yet been rated. I hope people are coming across this work, as it has much to offer parents and teachers.
Those of us who work with children with disrupted attachment recognize the importance of having a good teacher on board. Unfortunately, many--if not most--teachers get very little training on attachment. When a child with these issues enters their classroom, the educator struggles tremendously if they don't understand what motivates the child's problematic behaviors or difficulties with learning. Too often, educators and administrators mistakenly jump to the conclusion that the child simply has ADHD or needs medication. This book relies heavily on attachment theory, which can leave some teachers and parents getting blurry-eyed, as they're looking for answers on how to help the child. This book does offer those suggestions, but the reader has to get through the history, theory, and philosophy of attachment in the process. My recommendation is for parents to get this book and highlight those pages that best reflect the issues affecting your child. If the teacher wants more information, he/she can buy the whole book. In general, though, this is a useful and helpful resource for parents, educators, and providers who work with children who have disrupted attacment. |
