WW2 Commando Raid on Japanese held territory.,
By Seen Them All "Ace Movie Critic !!" (SoCal Desert) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Attack Force Z (DVD)
This is a pretty good WW2 action flick with very young actors Mel Gibson, Sam Neill, and John Phillip Law. A group of commandos must infiltrate Japanese territory and find a downed airplane with a Japanese Peace Deligation aboard and get the men to safety. They are helped by the local populace. Lots of action and overall a pretty good story. Based on the real exploits of the WW2 commandos who raided behind enemy lines in the Pacific and whose full story is yet to be told.

Early Mel Gibson and Sam Neill movie.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Attack Force Z [VHS] (VHS Tape)
It's interesting to watch the very young looking Mel Gibson and Sam Neill play second fiddle to fading actor John Phillip Law in this low budget war film. I loved this movie as a kid when it was shown repeatedly on HBO. Afterall, it's essentially a boy's war movie: elite Allied commandoes on a suicide mission behind enemy lines. Think "Guns of Navarone" with Australians vs. the Japanese and minus Germans, big guns, and a big budget. "Attack Force Z" is pretty much a GRADE B movie; but boys and action fans will probably still love it.

This is an extremely enjoyable move, great action, good acting, and pretty realistic Special Operation in scope and detail. This is not a film with great hidden meaning, no surrealistic essay or religious allegory, no stunning and profound cinematic portraits, just a fun action movie!OVERALL SCORE: (A-)

Probably more realistic of a special operations mission - no friends only enemies!

Good action from a young Mel Gibson,

Good war/action flick, but don't expect the gory realism or historic authenticity of other more famous films. Great performances by Gibson, Neill and cast. The movie also does a pretty decent job of portraying the psychology of men involved in high-risk, special operations. Don't over-analyze this movie, just sit back and enjoy it.

Great Movie!,
This review is from: Attack Force Z [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was pleasantly surprised that the movie is so good! Great and noble story, convincing performances and realistic location. I am a John Phillip Law fanatic and I think his acting in this movie is top notch!! Of course, he is as handsome as can be. He must be about 45 years of age when he made this movie. He sure is growing older nicely. I'm glad I own this miovie so I can enjoy it when the mood strikes.

I loved this movie since the first time I saw it. It is good WWII Special ops, even though it wasn't very realistic. Good story, great ending, cool characters, first time I've seen a silenced M3, lots of softcore gore, but good stuff. Enjoy it, but it's not a DVD buy, save a couple of bucks and buy the VHS.

They shoot everybody, they never reload or take aim. So what if it didn't get an Acadamy award it's a guy movie. If you want a touching evening do this, get a six pack, put this in the VCR and watch the shooting. Great ending. I give this 2 Thumbs-up. I'll see you at the movies

The movie became a cartoon of martial arts fighting. It was a total joke. The movie started out for the first few
minutes with a silent sound track. It should have stayed silent.

For those of you that like WWII movies, this one should fill the bill. This must be one of Mel Gibson's first movies because he looks like a teenager in it. Not an epic war movie, but still a good one and worth watching.
