good album, funny reviews,
By
This review is from: On the Attack (Audio CD)
well i had to put in my two cents because these reviews are hilarious.the album itself is dumb. it's juvenile, and the lyrics could have been written by a 14 year old... well a 14 year old who's worldly wise! at any rate, gillette obviously has issues. her level of hotness is irrelevant, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. however, those feeling nostalgic for the cheesy songs we danced to 10 years ago at the club will appreciate this album for what it is... basically the same reason anyone would buy a paula abdul album anymore. the lyrics are great for a girls' night out when you want to sit around and bemoan the shortcomings (physical AND emotional) of the opposite sex. it's dumb, it'll make you laugh, and that's about all anyone can say about this album.

Great 90s Album!,
This review is from: On the Attack (Audio CD)
despite the simplistic lyrics, i think this an great album,a retaliation of sorts against the misogynic attitude of contemporary music -- most notably rap songs, which often degrade women. Though she knows her music will offend some, Gillette says the time is right for her type of message. "Men have been dogging out women like this for a long time, and they expect us just to take it," she says. The songs are really catchy and the lyrics are funny!! Don't listen to the reviewers below, they are just little little scared men, who got a bit defensive

I noticed most of the reviews for this that were rude crude and downright unneeded were written by men...To those of you who think the listeners must be ugly, fat or flat chested i'm here to tell ya i love the stuff and i'm certainly no "plain jane". You never see very many reviews, if any at all, where men hate on men for making fun of women or the like..but a women gives a man a good lashing and men dish out some nasty, rude bull. Enough of that..this is to discuss the music. Not prove how much of a man you are or how big your penis is. I think the music is fun and very enjoyable during those summer months after leaving the club/bar and "handing" men right in the face after the 2nd time you've said no... Gilette is your average loud mouth 90's singer looking to ruffle a few feathers...and it looks like she succeeded! If you like music that follows along the ideal of lords of acid or peaches...i recommend you pick up a copy.

Talk About Sinking As Low As All Those Immature Boys, Hah?,
By R - Review (TAMPA, FL. United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: On the Attack (Audio CD)
The reviews by certain people on here are pretty much the typical kind of reaction and comment(s) that come with these types of issues about songs addressing the opposite sex. To simply break it down, this is how it goes: When a woman ridicules a guy sexually, it means that she is a strong minded, independent and confident woman who will not, excuse the pun, 'settle for less'. Of course if this is all coming from a guy, then it means that he is simply a pathetic, sexist and insecure loser for putting down women. And they would certainly be right about the guy of course, but the exact same goes for Miss Gillette as well, who is clearly no better. As far as for the album itself, I choose not to give it a single star because the music is really just fun and perhaps even a bit tongue 'n' cheek as well(of course it would never be considerd as such if it were coming from a male performer, but I digress). This is basically just an album of enjoyable and very immature pop candy. Perhaps fun for a listen or two, but defiantely not something you would want to have in your ear constantly unless you also happen to have the same kind of mentality that Miss Gillette presents on here(and no doubt there are quite a few). All in all, a fun and dumb little pop album to enjoy, if just for a little while.

Really not that good,

Try "Sex Tonight" or "Shake Your Money Maker," (read my review on it though) instead. The people that are saying mean things about her are probably just the people who hate her music. I would listen to the sound samples before buying this CD, as there was really nothing here for me.

Correct Perception,

Gillette is singing about her divine feminine essence. Her rave-club style beat combined with her aggressive lyrics are a beautiful expression of her feminine angst. These songs are a refutation of songs with lyrics that are degrading of women (Eminem anyone? Beasty Boys? Etc...)She is declaring that women can be as aggressive, independent, judgemental, and sex-seeking as any over-eager, adolescent, overflowing-with-hormones teenage boy. More people should see her as an image of independence in a world of similarities.

Lame Album,
This review is from: On the Attack (Audio CD)
I recently bought this album, wanting some 90's stuff. Most of the 90's is kinda of crappy though, and this is no exception. The songs are redundent and I think this chic has some serious relationship issues. I can see why some of the reviews really slammed the songs. The lyrics are so stupid that my kid brother could have done a better job writing them. And the beats are lame too and get tiresome fast. I was really dissappointed by it all. I wish I had seen these reviews on here earlier sooner; they make me laugh. I love the "don't want no itty bitty t*tty" line by the one guy below. Me and my friends even wrote a funny remake of Gillette's No Short D*ck Man, titled "No Flat Chest Gurl" and used the line "don't want no itty bitty, tiny t*tty, flat chest gurl!" in the lyrics. It is so stupid and so dumb funny. I think Weird Al Yankovic should sing it though for good effect. All the girls except the stacked ones in the neighborhood are upset when we play it in our garage. It's so funny. The lines "what in the world are those things?: Tangerines?! You need to cover those up with some band aids hon, wonder bra won't work baby--get the BLEEP out of here!" seems to really get them most upset. I think it is the snickering laugh we make when we say the last part that gets to them the most. My girlfriend is definitely blessed, so she's kewl with it and laughs, but the small chested girls and women almost cry and the nice chested women try to act upset and stick up for the other women, but all the while the big chested females have this devilish wry smile that gives away how true it all is and what they have over the other smaller girls. It's so damn, stupid funny.

The personification of passion.,
By A Customer
This review is from: On the Attack (Audio CD)
Gillette has certainly captured a passion and energy that few others have dared and even fewer have succeeded in capturing. She's discharged her heart and soul into this work to create a rich and textured masterpiece in which every song is pleasantly jolting. Gillette, with the help of Twenty Fingers, put her innermost thoughts out into the open, obviously had fun doing it, and changed the thinking of listeners everywhere. In creating one of the sexiest albums of the 90s, Gillette has earned a permanent place in my heart, fueled my passion, and allowed me to reflect on my own masculinity. In true Darwinian form, Gillette captures the essence of survival of the fittest by asserting those aspects of men that she desires. Her lyrics motivate, stimulate, and force us to focus on the highest purpose of humanity, to procreate. If you find her lyrics offensive, remember that she simply reflects what we allow ourselves to be! |
