Book Description

Amber Military Series August 1, 2001
The first faltering steps into military jet technology were made nearly three-quarters of a century ago, in the time of canvas-and-wire airplanes and steam engines; since then, the results, thanks to jet pioneers throughout the world, have been nothing less than revolutionary. These 300 aircraft that have flown from World War II on, including some still in service, showcase the Messerschmitt Me 262, English Electric Lightning, Lockheed SR-71; North American F-86 Sabre, the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, Saab Draken, Suhkoi Su-27 "Flanker," and McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle.

This review is from: Attack and Interceptor Jets: 300 of the World's Greatest Aircraft (Amber Military Series) (Paperback)
I cannot for the life of me figure out why anyone over the age of ten would buy this book. In a book listing the 300 "greatest" attack & interceptor jets, why would there be 5 individual pages to the Hawker Sea Hawk and no listings for the early (WW II era) Gloster Meteor. And what on earth are listings for the Lockheed large transport aircraft doing in a book on combat aircraft. The author clearly was simply filling space and given the limited & questionable information provided about each aircraft, one would have to ask if the author had more than a passing interest in the subject to begin with. In depth, knowledgeable information is lacking. This book might make a grade schooler smile but for this price a serious attempt at researching the material might have been offered. My advice would be to stay away from this whole series of books. If this is a sample, the rest can't be much better.
