A Very Graphic Pearl Harbor!,
By Lynn Ellingwood "The ESOL Teacher" (Webster, NY United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Attack on Pearl Harbor (Graphic History) (Paperback)
The book is a graphic book about Pearl Harbor. I am using this book to assist my ESOL students in learning American History. It is very hard to understand the history in English when you are learning it and do not know the norms and the culture. These books help students learn English as well as history. The clothes, the look of the setting and the historical period is very important for the students to see and to learn. I highly recommend these books.

Great graphic history,

This review is from: The Attack on Pearl Harbor (Graphic History) (Paperback)
The art design is excellent. I love the use of black and white for the International News presented in the first two pages contrasted with the purple color used for the audiences. The rest of the illustrations are in color, the speech and narratives are appropriate, and the story of the attack on Pearl Harbor is quite comprehensive. The only missing detail in this story is that there was a Japanese delegation in Washington on the eve of the attack, which was probably used to distract the U.S. This was the reason for which Americans found inconceivable an attack from the Japanese. The text is excellent for sequence of events, cause-effect relationships, motivating students to learn about history, and other comprehension skills. As usual in these texts, its table of contents, glossary, and the "more about..." section are great complementary sections for this graphic historical text.
