This book was designed for any man who is preparing to enter the professional world. It began as a series of notes developed for friends during college. With work and research, the notes became a book. This second edition includes information on grooming, employment tips and business etiquette. It is hoped that this book will answer most young men's questions and put them at ease in the professional world. From the Author

I wrote this book for friends when I was in college. It seemed necessary when several of my friends would wear flannel shirts and nose-rings to job interviews. I learned many of these points when in the United States Marine Corps and in the professional world at Deloitte & Touche. I wanted to help other young men attempting to crack into the professional world. By explaining many of the odd social graces and "tricks" in appearance and conduct, young men have the knowledge to succeed. I welcome any comments, thoughts and suggestions at "clint@greenleafenterprises.com".

2.0 out of 5 stars Wax On, Wax Off, October 4, 2000
This review is from: Attention to Detail : A Gentleman's Guide to Professional Appearance and Conduct (Paperback)
This book is for a young man who is about to graduate from high school or college. If you are looking for a serious book about men's fashion, I suggest you look elsewhere. Perhaps you may want to look at Josh Karlen's 'Indispensible Guide to Classic Men's Clothing' which I found informative reading in the areas of suits, shirts, and outerwear; or even Tim Meehan's 'Suit Yourself' which I thought was interesting in the areas of "dress" casual and "corporate" casual. It took me about 10 minutes to read Mr. Greenleaf's book after skimming the chapters on 'Shaking Hands', 'Shining shoes' (who has time to put shaving cream on their shoes?)and business etiquette. If you need work in these areas, then this book is for you. If you are already established in the business world and have already committed all the fashion crimes early in your career but are gearing more towards the next level in classic men's fashion, this book is not for you. This book is a very basic primer for a person whose closet is empty.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Start - But There are Better Books, May 1, 2000
By
This review is from: Attention to Detail : A Gentleman's Guide to Professional Appearance and Conduct (Paperback)
This book is a good start but really only starts to scratch the surface regarding men's style. There's no mention of what style shoes are best, proper ways to coordinate outfits, etc. The book is really quite thin, something like 80 pages or so. It's much more of a pamphlet to help act as a "refresher" course than a full fledged tome where you will get gobs of good information. It's just not in there.

Along with this book, I also bought Gentlemen Style by Bernhard Roetzel and Guenter Beer. This is the book that I keep coming back to. Lots of full color photographs, with names of the best designers and what situations you'd wear their products (work, play, both). This is exactly the book I was looking for. I'd recommend this book over Greenleaf's book, although I consider Greenleaf's book a good "primer". Just don't consider it the only book you should buy.

I just got this book in the mail yesterday - it is awesome! My roommates and I read it and since we have interviews next week, this really came in handy. You'll love it!
