Wax On, Wax Off,
This review is from: Attention to Detail : A Gentleman's Guide to Professional Appearance and Conduct (Paperback)
This book is for a young man who is about to graduate from high school or college. If you are looking for a serious book about men's fashion, I suggest you look elsewhere. Perhaps you may want to look at Josh Karlen's 'Indispensible Guide to Classic Men's Clothing' which I found informative reading in the areas of suits, shirts, and outerwear; or even Tim Meehan's 'Suit Yourself' which I thought was interesting in the areas of "dress" casual and "corporate" casual. It took me about 10 minutes to read Mr. Greenleaf's book after skimming the chapters on 'Shaking Hands', 'Shining shoes' (who has time to put shaving cream on their shoes?)and business etiquette. If you need work in these areas, then this book is for you. If you are already established in the business world and have already committed all the fashion crimes early in your career but are gearing more towards the next level in classic men's fashion, this book is not for you. This book is a very basic primer for a person whose closet is empty.

A Good Start - But There are Better Books,
By
This review is from: Attention to Detail : A Gentleman's Guide to Professional Appearance and Conduct (Paperback)
This book is a good start but really only starts to scratch the surface regarding men's style. There's no mention of what style shoes are best, proper ways to coordinate outfits, etc. The book is really quite thin, something like 80 pages or so. It's much more of a pamphlet to help act as a "refresher" course than a full fledged tome where you will get gobs of good information. It's just not in there. Along with this book, I also bought Gentlemen Style by Bernhard Roetzel and Guenter Beer. This is the book that I keep coming back to. Lots of full color photographs, with names of the best designers and what situations you'd wear their products (work, play, both). This is exactly the book I was looking for. I'd recommend this book over Greenleaf's book, although I consider Greenleaf's book a good "primer". Just don't consider it the only book you should buy.

Excellent Advice for Men,
By A Customer
This review is from: Attention to Detail : A Gentleman's Guide to Professional Appearance and Conduct (Paperback)
I had my boyfriend read this as he was job hunting. He wouldn't listen to me, but he devoured this book and really started to spiff up his appearance not just for job interviews but all the time. He learned that it's not just about "accept me as I am torn T-shirt and all". The way you appear and act sends out all kinds of subconscious signals. They must be positive because you never get a second chance to make a first impression. This guide is easy to follow, brief and filled with great pictures that really tell a thousands words. Kudos to Greenleaf on a great little book that really has the power to make American men a little more wonderful to look at.

a teens guide, not a gentleman's guide,
By Housemaidsknee "Housemaidsknee" (Hanover, NH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Attention to Detail : A Gentleman's Guide to Professional Appearance and Conduct (Paperback)
this book should be titled "professional appearance for dummies". most of the information is very very basic. remember, this book is only 51 pages all inclusive. in that space, it covers dressing, posture, emailing, eating, etc. not a lot of information on any topic.
on top of that, some of the information is wrong. for instance, the author derates asymmetrical tie knots like the half windsor as unprofessional. this is inaccurate and the half windsor is one of the three most popular tie knots for business. (another - the four in hand - the most common - is also asymmetrical) if you "don't do nuance" and want a couple of rules to live by - this is your book. alternately, if you are young and need a good introduction, read this. otherwise, its really not worth the money.

This is Fantastic!,
This review is from: Attention to Detail : A Gentleman's Guide to Professional Appearance and Conduct (Paperback)
Now here is a book that people can use. With all the 500 page books about the history of the hankerchief out there, this one is short and simple with all the practical advice you need. Great book, you'll love it!

This is the best little guide! I keep it on my desk at work and people are always running in to ask me advice (which usually means they look at the book). I think every guy in business should have a copy of it because the information in here is priceless!

The right idea,
This review is from: Attention to Detail : A Gentleman's Guide to Professional Appearance and Conduct (Paperback)
It isnt perfect (could be longer in some chapters) but the stuff he says is right and can really help young guys. If you are afraid to ask questions about what to wear to work, this'll help.

Fantastic Advice,

It's about time men had a guide that helps. I'm sick to see how guys dress nowadays. If you have questions on how to do it right, read this book. The clothes checklist is a great start for your job and the real world. It shows what to buy and wear because the grunge look doesn't fly on Wall Street.

Great Gift,

This is a great gift. Very simple way to give my boyfriend some common sense that he won't get from his buddies and didn't get in school.
