From Publishers Weekly

With the ladder on a toy fire truck pointing the way, a young boy takes an imaginative climb into an attic of infinite possibilities. Ages 5-8.

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 3 Children will relate to this delightful tale of a young boy, who, bored with his toys, uses his imagination to climb his toy fire truck ladder into an imaginary attic. He finds a family of mice full of activity, a spider weaving an intricate web, a flying machine to sail through the world and a friendly tiger with great conversation. Since imaginary games cannot go on forever, he climbs down his ladder and returns home to dinner. Kitamura's colorful watercolor and pen-and-ink illustrations are large enough for enjoyable storytelling, yet brimming with imaginative detail for hours of individual pleasure. A fine picture book that shows the value of imagination in children. Peggy Forehand, Chesapeake Headquarters Library, Va.

5.0 out of 5 stars ENTER A WHOLE NEW WORLD, June 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: In the Attic (Paperback)
"In The Attic" is a wonderful invitation into the world of imagination! A small boy climbs a toy ladder into the attic to play, to discover, to dream. The illustrations invite the reader/listener to become part of the fantasy while also inspiring ideas and questions for discussion. Many possibilities for literature extension activities and creative play. Appropriate for school-aged children as well as preschoolers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Imaginations soar, March 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: In the Attic (Paperback)
"In the Attic" is a great children's book featuring the wonders of a child's imagination. We have used this book in a family literacy project at our local public library and the parents love it too. This is a great book to teach readers to pay close attention to the details in a book's illustrations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, August 1, 2010
This review is from: In the Attic (Paperback)
To tell the truth, I'm not sure what I think about this book.

The message - imagination keeps you from being bored - is a good one, and the story is interesting, and the artwork is just fine, but for some reason it's not adding up in my head as a keeper book. I might pass this off to my nieces' school.
