As with most things in life, attitude is absolutely core to becoming an effective leader. Pat Sullivan offers 8 keys that all of us can use on our respective journeys toward becoming extraordinary leaders. Having played basketball for Pat, I have tried to emulate his style throughout my business career and am excited to have his book available as a reminder of the things that matter most in building sustainable relationships and in effectively leading others. He's a passionate speaker on the topic and this book is just as inspiring as Pat is in-person!

Coach Pat Sullivan is an internationally-respected long-time (now retired) high school and college coach but he's also much more than that. He is also a "Leader's Leader."

In this book, using the letters of the word, "ATTITUDE" as an acronym, he shares with us, his readers/students, the eight characteristics (and how to develop them in ourselves) that will make us great leaders regardless of whether we are coaching student athletes, salespeople, or high-level executives on our team.

One of the highlights that ran consistently throughout the book was Coach Pat - again, a highly-regarded coach/mentor to others - citing *his* mentors, both by sharing specific examples he learned from them and expressing gratitude for their being in his life. Interesting how we see this so often...great mentors were once (and, continue to be) great proteges. Exceptional teachers were once (and, continue to be) exceptional students.

It was an honor to be mentored by Coach Pat Sullivan throughout this book and it will be an honor to share his wisdom (and his book!) with those I mentor.

The book itself is filled with entertaining and powerful stories and examples, mostly - though not all - from an athletic context. And, I was reminded throughout just why athletic success is such a microcosm for life and general business success.

There are simply traits, characteristics and actions that, if one learns and applies them, they cannot help but be successful. In this book, we learn what they are, how to "own" them, and how to pass them along. And, when you think about it, that's what a great coach or mentor does.

Terrific book, packed with powerful lessons for anyone who wants to win in the big game...life!

While I have read a countless number of books regarding leadership and earned a Master's Degree in the subject, this work by Coach Sullivan is truly unique. There have been many books that I have read that I never wanted to put down. This book was like others in that sense. What made it different though is that while I didn't want to stop reading, I forced myself to pause. I knew that the information that was being shared was so important that before reading any more, I must process how what was being shared should be applied to my own life. Anyone who meets Pat Sullivan knows the impact he has on everyone he meets. This book explains how he lives such a meaningful life.

Over the past several years, I have heard motivation speeches and leadership discussions by a (1) Head of State,
a (2) former NBA star turned Coach and General Manager, and a (3) USA Gold Medal Olympian. I have also had the pleasure of
hearing Pat Sullivan address our group of Sales Professionals. The ATTITUDE acronym was so simplistic in its delivery but so
powerful in its message. When I was made aware that Mr. Sullivan had written this book, I was afraid that the spoken word would not
translate properly into book format. I could not have been more wrong. I was even more impressed with ATTITUDE after reading
it as I was when I first heard it. The blend of storytelling, inflection, and humor are all present in this book.

This book needs to be on everyone's short list if you are not only seeking to be a better manager, but also a better coach,
parent, husband/wife, and friend.

If you have children, Pat Sullivan would be the dream coach for them. Not only a basketball coach, but a life coach. Attitude - The Cornerstone of Leadership is a reflection across 40+ years of Pat's career. His insights - whether it be religion, social matters, history, business or sports - are very applicable to the world we live in today. Can one person's attitude change the performance of a team, your family or your workplace? Absolutely yes. Check out this great article written about the book in the paper: [...] What an inspiring book and I look forward to other books from this author!

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Pat Sullivan's book, "Attitude: The Cornerstone of Leadership." Pat Sullivan was not only a great coach but an outstanding professor as well at the University of St. Francis. He was a daily inspiration to his students and players. Anyone who has ever heard Sully speak, knows that he is a reflective and intelligent thinker. Now one can read his thoughts and digest what it takes to model effective leadership. Sully's stories and his analogies are a must read for anyone in a leadship position.

My mother always preached to "eat your vitamin every day." Pat Sullivan's new book, "Attitude the Cornerstone of Leadership" contains the necessary vitamin equivalent for the mind. Pat outlines eight steps for a healthy attitude, eight steps vital for any successful professional career. Having worked with Pat at many a basketball camp and clinic and having observed him as a coach many times makes me most confident to say that there is the highest credibility here: Pat not only understands the constitution of a good attitude in a leadership position, he models it daily. Even though the wealth of examples Pat uses are sports-related, the models of leadership he offers (Father Kaffer, Gordie Gillespie, etc.) have stood the test of time. The eight steps have produced - and continue to produce to this day - successful people. The book is easy to read and one could complete it in a day, if necessary -just like that vitamin. Whether you are in a leadership position or not, this book contains simple, yet challenging steps for an improved life. Today there are many self-help books; this is a self-help winner.
