Action, Romance, and Murder,
By
This review is from: Attracted to Fire (Paperback)
Special Agent Meghan Connors dreams of protecting the president. Her new assignment should be a step closer to realizing that dream, but a self-destructive protectee and a chauvinistic Special Agent in Charge are making it more of a nightmare. But when their secure location is compromised and the death toll starts to rise, Connors and SAC Ash Zinder have to figure out who they can trust--including their own hearts.
I first discovered DiAnn Mills when I read her Breach of Trust (Call of Duty Series, Book 1) in my hunt for a Dee Henderson (The Negotiator (The O'Malley Series #1)) replacement. Attracted to Fire is another solid romantic-suspense novel from Mills, though I think some of her earlier novels had stronger character development and better romantic chemistry between the main leads. Attracted to Fire is a good 'brain candy' kind of story if you don't think about it too much. I enjoyed the read--lots of action, some good twists and turns to the plot, and a touch of romance. There were a few things that niggled at me, though. I could buy that female agents have a tough time in the Secret Service, but Zinder's reason for his chauvinism seemed a little far fetched--as did his about face attraction for Meghan. One thing that kept bugging me in the early part of the book was Zinder's insistence he didn't want a woman on his team when he was protecting the VP's daughter. I may have just seen too many episodes of the West Wing, but wouldn't it be standard protocol to have female agents protect female members of the president's and vice-president's family when available? And I'd love to know what was in that magic herbal tea that took care of Zinder's allergies in about five minutes flat because let me tell you--I've lived in Texas all my life and dealt with allergies all my life and if there's that kind of magic bullet out there I seriously need to find it. I kind of went back and forth on the ratings for this one. I did enjoy the book for its action and interesting plot line. I was in the mood for a light read and this scratched that itch nicely. I enjoyed Meghan's and Ash's snappy dialogue, but somehow just didn't buy the quick attraction between them. I'm giving it four stars because I did enjoy the read and would pass it on to a friend, but I also feel like we've seen better from Mills. If I pick a book to re-read, I'm going to be much more likely to go hunting for Breach of Trust and Paige Rogers on the shelf than re-visit Meghan Connors in this book. Enjoyed it, but it won't have a permanent place on the shelf. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I did not guarantee a positive review.

Fun and engaging romantic suspense,
This review is from: Attracted to Fire (Paperback)
I have found that I enjoy a good romantic suspense now and then. Every once in a while I get an itch to read a suspense novel that has a touch of romance too and I was not disappointed when I picked up Attracted to Fire.
Attracted to Fire is about a couple of special agents that get assigned to protect the vice president's daughter after there were some threats against her life. The daughter is also a drug and alcohol addict and is struggling with withdrawals. Ash Zinders and Meghan Connor get assigned to be the top agents in charge of her care and protection. Sparks begin to fly because Ash is not too happy about having a female agent on his team and Meghan is convinced she can prove that female agents are just as good as men. I was able to quickly fall in love with the plot and characters in the book and it all flowed easily and quick. I also felt the reader knew what she was talking about as far as protocol and all that went with the agents, although I myself don't have any facts to back that up because I know nothing of law enforcement. I especially enjoyed the dialogue between Ash and Meghan and the other agents. I really enjoyed the two main characters Ash and Meghan but especially admired Meghan. She was such a strong and independent young woman yet she had a tender heart for the girl they were protecting and all the other characters mentioned. I thought the romance that bloomed between Ash and Meghan was authentic and really did not agree that it was rushed. I am a firm believer in love at first sight - although it wasn't exactly like that in this story. The secondary characters were also a memorable and added some fun to the story. The mystery involved was very entertaining. I found myself guessing at who I thought the killer was all throughout the story. I had my suspicions of who it was and how they were connected to the main suspect. In the end I found some of my theories were close but some were also not even near to being correct, which was great! I love it when I am surprised as to who the killer is! Attracted to fire is thrilling romantic suspense that I am happy I decided to read. This is the first I've read any of DiAnn Mills books and was pleased enough to be looking in to more novels by her! This is my honest opinion, thank you to Tyndale Blog Network for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and opinion.

Great Book,

This review is from: Attracted to Fire (Paperback)
I LOVE this type of book. I highly encourage you to read the first chapter here. When I am reading a book and am constantly telling my husband, "Oh! You are going to love this one." he comes to check the author. When he saw that this was written by DiAnn Mills he said, "Hurry! I loved her last two (Breach of Trust and Sworn to Protect)." Attracted to Fire centers around two special agents who are assigned to protect the vice president's daughter. She has been sent to Texas because of a threat against her life from a drug lord. The vp's daughter has been entangled in drugs and is suffering from withdrawals. As if this assignment isn't difficult enough. Special Agent Meghan Connor's partner seems to have a big issue with working with a female. His persistence in not wanting a female partner only makes Meghan dig her heels in and want to prove that female special agents can do the job just as good as males. This provides a great undercurrent of tension. Ultimately the goal of this assignment is to find out who the stalker is and eliminate the threat to the vice president's daughter. However, Meghan will find that threat is closer than she ever thought. This book is a page turner. Starting it at bedtime was such a mistake because I couldn't put it down until I finished it and wound up having to drink a LOT of coffee the next morning to be able to stay awake to teach. Who am I kidding? I would do it again.

Equal parts suspense and romance make this book about Secret Service Agents Ash and Meghan a must read. When the Vice President's daughter is sent to a ranch in Texas to go through detox from drugs and alcohol, it soon becomes apparent that more than just a simple debt to a drug lord is in the works. Ash Zinders is the lead man on the case and the last thing that he wants is a woman agent to screw everything up. But he can't deny that Agent Meghan Connors knows her stuff. The Vice President's daughter, Lindsey seems to know more than she is telling, but at what cost? When deadly forces strike, who will be the last ones standing? My Rating: 5 Stars Cover to cover this book kept me reeled into the story. It had enough intrigue to keep me on my toes and enough sweet romance to curl them. :) If you're looking for a book with a little of both of these elements plus a mix of Christian faith thrown in, look no further. I loved it and I hope you will too! Many thanks to Tyndale Publishers for my copy of this book to review. All of the opinions expressed here are strictly mine.

Absolutely loved Attracted to Fire!!!,
This review is from: Attracted to Fire (Paperback)
I'm not going to lie. While I was interested in reading Attracted to Fire by DiAnn Mills because it's a suspense / romance and I'd heard great things about DiAnn Mills' novels, I chose it because of the cover. I know, I know. You're not supposed to judge a book by its cover . . . but you know you do it too! Anyway. The girl on the front reminds me so much of Dr. Brennan on the TV show Bones (which I love!), so I had to pick it up. :)I started reading one night with the thought of reading "just a few pages." Six chapters later, I was still going strong. (Who needs sleep?!) I was sucked in from the first page and read furiously to the end. Attracted to Fire is incredibly fast-paced. The characters are dynamite. The writing is fantastic. I actually got giddy as the relationship between Ash and Meghan developed! In many ways the book read like a movie . . . I can easily see this playing out on the big screen! My only (very small) complaint is that there were a couple of times when things seemed a bit rushed. Not overly . . . but just skipped a few tiny steps. I loved how DiAnn wrote faith into Meghan and Ash's stories. Sometimes it comes off as cheesy, but DiAnn did a great job writing in realistic, faith-based conversations that could potentially draw readers to Christ. Which . . . isn't that the goal?! All in all, this is my favorite type of novel. Action. Romance. Faith. I can't wait to read other books by DiAnn Mills! I received a free copy of this book from Tyndale House in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Another Fabulous Story from DiAnn Mills,
By Mocha with Linda (Texas, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Attracted to Fire (Paperback)
I chuckled at the timing when this book arrived in the mail because it was the week of Labor Day, when Texas was experiencing so many wildfires. I was not feeling very Attracted to Fire! But I knew I would love the book and wow! DiAnn Mills once again demonstrates her brilliance as an author by crafting a plot and details that absolutely keep me glued to the pages. This is a fascinating look at the Secret Service and the dedication of the men and women who protect our nation's leaders. The members of the Secret Service perform their duties without regard to their personal feelings about the protectee's behavior and personality, even taking a bullet for someone they actually dislike. Exhibit A is their current assignment: the bratty---er, troubled---Vice President's daughter. DiAnn does a masterful job of developing a complex cast of characters and then slowly ratcheting up the suspense until you aren't sure who are the "good guys" and who has turned. A bit of romantic tension adds to the adrenaline in this captivating novel. Definitely a must-read!Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Tyndale House Publishers as part of their Blogger Review program. Lots of suspense,
This review is from: Attracted to Fire (Paperback)
A book from the romance genre is not my usual pick for a good read but when I was offered the chance to read and review this book, I said yes because the nuts and bolts of this story appeared to be a suspenseful plot involving Secret Agents, strong minded women, the Presidency and a conspiracy that threatens to harm them all. I was not left disappointed. This book had a great plot and was suitably suspenseful, with believable characters and a satisfying finish. The romance was integral to the plot but subtlety played out as the story unfolded, the main thrust of the plot was definitely the good guys v the bad guys. I also enjoyed the vivid imagery that Mills painted of a working ranch deep in the heart of Texas. I would highly recommend this book for lovers of christian fiction, romance and thrillers. Thanks to Tyndale House Publishers for providing me with a complimentary copy of Attracted to Fire by DiAnn Mills for review, all opinions are 100% mine.

Attracted to FIRE,

This review is from: Attracted to Fire (Paperback)
I love mysteries and suspense, so this was definitely my type of book. Attracted to FIRE by DiANN Mills, is a story of the Vice President's daughter, Lindsay Hall that is wildly out of control, using drink, drugs and whatever to escape realism. But because of a threat from a drug lord, Lindsay is sent to a ranch in western Texas where several body guards are used to protect her. The two special agents who are assigned to protect the vice president's (soon turned President) daughter, are Ash and Meghan (who are coincidentally up for the same promotion, being put on the President's security team.) While Lindsay is suffering from withdrawals. and being treated with vitamins, Ash Zinder and Meghan Connors have to learn to work together as Ash has an issue working female partners (and we learn why as the story unfolds). Ultimately the goal of this assignment is to find out who the stalker is and eliminate the threat to the vice president's /president's daughter. Meghan will find that threat is closer than she ever thought. As expected, their secure location is compromised and people are beginning to be killed, Meghan, Ash and Lindsay must find out how they can trust , and time is running out for them. I recommend Attracted to Fire as a good read, filled with action, suspense and a bit of romance (of couorse there has to be some chemestry between Ash and Meghan!). I received a free copy of this book from Tyndale publishing in exchange for a honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Full of Suspense and Romance,

This review is from: Attracted to Fire (Paperback)
When the vice president's daughter receives death threats, Meghan is given the assignment of protecting the young woman as she goes through therapy for drug addiction on a secluded Texas ranch. When the vice president is sworn in as president, the threats against Lindsay increase and the ranch is attacked. Will Meghan be able to save the president's daughter even if it means losing her heart to the Special Agent in Charge?I enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, especially Meghan, from the first chapter. She's a great heroine: strong and independent. Even the supporting characters were well-developed and added to the overall theme of the novel. The mystery of who was threatening Lindsay was fast-paced and even though the reader finds out who it is by the middle of the book, the adventure was in finding out how the person would be caught. Overall, fans of Christian suspense will be delighted with another great book by DiAnn Mills. I received this book in exchange for my review. My thoughts and opinions are my own. |
