More About the Author

On the day Carol Frischmann learned to crawl, the family Doberman pinscher gripped her diapers with his teeth to prevent her tumble down a flight of stairs. Ever since, Carol, now a writer and educator, has been repaying her debt to creatures that fly, run, or slither on their bellies.
She has shared her love of nature as a high school science teacher, zoo lady, Audubon volunteer, and as a writer for magazines and newspapers.

Graduated from Duke University with a degree in Science Education, Carol is the pet columnist for KGW.com, an NBC affiliate television station, and for her own website. In April 2007, TFH Publications releases her book, Conures, a part of the Animal Planet Pet Care series.

Three parrots and a Doberman pinscher closely supervise Carol's work in her Portland, Oregon office.

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this book!, February 18, 2008
This review is from: Attracting and Feeding Backyard Birds (Animal Planet Pet Care Library) (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed reading this book.

The author, Carol Frischmann has a great way of dividing the birds by habits or activities, which makes it easy to find the bird by watching what it is doing such as clinging to a tree or mostly on the ground.

For each of the 50 birds listed, she lists birds that it might be confused with due to similarities and indicates the differences that will help you identify the bird you are watching. She has also included pictures of these birds and lets the readers know where in North America that these birds can be found.

The author gives ideas on making your yard bird friendly and how to attract the species of birds you are interested in.

This is a great book for someone just starting out in birdwatching or birdfeeding that can get the whole family involved.
