5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best People Skills books there are!, January 8, 2002
This book gets placed in my "Top Five" list on the topic of people skills. Although I feel comfortable socially and make friends easily, one of my sons turned out to be shy. I began voraciously reading books on people skills in order to help him. I found the information very suitable to our times, unlike the "How To Win Friends and Influence People" book and similar others from that era. People are socially savvy now and the basic principals in those books everyone already knows and the little hints seemed corny and tricky. Dr. Glass's advice was not tired or insulting.

I especially found the exercise in determining the personality characteristics of terrific people to be enlightening. Not only does it help to see what kind of people you tend to get along with but also helps you realize how "terrific" your own personality is or isn't. This also helped to see what type of people I was spending time with and how helpful they were or weren't in my life. This, along with many other exercises, helps direct you to consciously focus on the possibility of including more positive people in your life.

The one thing that will stay with me is that because we have relatives, friends, or co-workers in our lives that pull us down, we don't have to keep them as our social circle. We can, and she shows us quite easily, how to direct our focus on positive healthy people who add, instead of subtract, energy from our lives. The people are there, but we forget when we're surrounded by those who deplete us. We get to decide why type of people we want to expend energy for and keep in our lives and here is the book to show us how that can be done.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you don't like this, you probably don't get it., May 19, 2004
By A Customer
I've read a few negative reviews from customers here on Amazon complaining that Ms. Glass never tells you how to actually attract terrific people. I think the problem is that Lillian's solution is so simple that they miss the point. The fact that they took the time to trash someone's book should suggest that they might need to read it again.

It's full of great advice that should be "common sense" but as we all know it is not that common. She didn't strike me as snobby either. Its frankly one of the audio books that I am "suggesting" that all my employees listen to with the statement: "If I thought you needed this, I would not have hired you, but listen to it anyway." I think books like this are far more valuable than any sexual harassment seminar.
