I actually bought the kit for the pads and center strap in order to carrying my canoe atop our truck. I use our own heavy duty tie-downs for the ends of the canoe. I have used the ropes and hooks in the kit in other ways. The materials in the kit have worked for me and it was well worth the price.

This is a great basic starter kit but we had to replace 2 pads within a few weeks and added a few winch straps. One thing we discovered to compliment this kit is to use a pool noodle cut into smaller pieces and split down the middle (pictured with and without pool noodle)

It works... but. The pads are thin and compress too easily. My initial tie-down led to some shifting in the wind on the freeway. Tightening the straps enough to prevent shifting caused screw heads on the canoe's gunnels to contact the top of my car, leaving two little scraped out divots on each side of the roof at the end of the trip. Moving the pads closer to prevent contact betweent the screw heads and the car's paint required further tightening to compensate for the lack of mechanical advantage of having them further apart which caused them to compress even more, and develop small splits which I am sure will become larger and lead to failure after a few more trips. I would recommend a carrier kit with larger, stiffer pads.

This worked well. I have a car that doesn't have cross bars and I just bought a canoe from Craigslist and wanted to take it home. I live on a lake so I really don't have to drive much with the canoe on the roof or for a long distance again (once I brought the canoe back from buying it on Craigslist). So, I thought this was a less expensive solution than paying $400 for cross bars.

It worked GREAT. The foam cushions were perfect and carried this canoe well. I would recommend it again for that reason. That said, I think that there could have been more or perhaps better straps for the canoe in this kit, which, is why I only give it 4 stars. I ended up using some rope and straps that I already had purchased at Home Depot and that worked well in the end.

I later used the foam cushions to buy an outdoor ladder to reach the top of my house. Again, crossbars for my Highlander are $200 and I just needed to get the ladder from Home Depot home. It, again, worked out GREAT. I saved money on the crossbars and the cushions completely steadied the ladder on the roof of my car with no worries, or scratches.

I was a little skeptical to tie my canoe onto the roof of my car with no racks. This products looks simple but performed great. It met and exceeded my expectations

Someone gave us a huge canoe, and this kit comes with everything we need. The sponge were smaller than we expected but they work very well.

Prompt delivery as promised. This kit is exactly as described. It contained everything I needed to carry my 16' canoe to the roof of my truck without damaging the paint/clear coat in any way. I did remember to wash the roof thoroughly before placing the pads on the roof. This ensured there were no dirt or dust particles under the pads that could cause scratches.

This kit fits my over sized canoe and helps me get it on the Jeep and stay on the jeep. I don't use the straps in came with because they looked kinda cheap but I have my own burlier straps and the foam works great to keep the boat in place.

Just mounted this to my jeep. Very basic ropes and strap system. The ropes are very stretchy which isn't a good idea for heavy objects. You want rigidity. Didn't feel sturdy despite cranking it down to the roof, in fact, we had to stop once and readjust about a half mile after leaving the house as the canoe was slipping off and wouldn't drive on the open road.

These foam blocks are very soft and compressed under the weight of the canoe causing severe damage to the car paint. NOT HAPPY AT ALL. Thanks to the makers of this very cheap product, it will cost hundreds to fix my car. Invest in the carrying rack. It is much cheaper in the long run.
