Appears to be well made.

This is a very simple mount to carry a spare tire on the frame of the trailer.

You can cut length to fit, but you'll remove the zinc plating in doing so.

The Attwood U-Bolt tire carrier is a simple ingenious design, but needed modification to fit my trailer. I cut the threaded portion on both sides to leave about an inch remaining above the wheel mounting holes. This eliminates two towering unused bolt ends that would always be in the way. Cutting reduces installation and removal time as well. I found that the brackets on the device scrape paint off the wheel when tightened so I added (2) flat washers to protect it. To ensure the spare tire was firmly mounted to the trailer tongue I added (2) 5/16-18 nuts to hold the tire/wheel in place, then installed the Attwood brackets. This also allows the bracket heights to be adjusted to prevent interference. The result is a solid secure assembly. Even the most meager instructions or a line drawing would have helpful.

After reading the reviews I purchased these bolts. Two things that need to be noted. 1. The seller description needs to say that NO NUTS are necessary. 2. As another reviewer stated that he was disappointed because no nuts came with the carrier. So I ordered the bracket and before taking out of the package, purchased some nuts and lock washers. The locking brackets ARE the nuts! So now I have a few extra washers and nuts laying around now. You can use a padlock or just a snap ring to insure the brackets do not back out. I put one carrier on a 12" rim/boat frame and one on a 18" rim/angle iron trailer frame (both 5 bolt holes). Worked perfectly!!

This is a very simple mount to carry a spare tire on the frame of the trailer. It does not require drilling, and holds the tire securely to the frame of the trailer. Can also be locked with a padlock. No more tire in and out of the boat at the launch.

ive only ever seen these type with the arm type nuts on trailers built with them on. they work great. no wrench needed to remove them. i suppose it would be nice to be able to lock it if you ahve a trailer with bling wheels, but a zip tie works fine for me.

whoever says it doesnt come with nuts or you need lugs or whatever is an idiot. the bent metal things have threaded holes. like awkward wing nuts.

I used this tire u-bolt to hold a spare tire on to the back side of my spare tire carrier (so I could have two spares) and it worked perfectly. I didn't realize until we got back from our latest trip that I didn't even install a lock and the unit held perfectly tight.

This tire carrier is designed so simply, yet so intelligently, I feel compelled to give it a five star rating. It offers one great advantage over standard tire carriers; it hugs the boat trailer much more closely and this makes parking and jockeying the boat into my garage far easier. More than once, my previous tire carrier caught on my garage door frame because it stuck out too far from the boat trailer.

One reviewer wisely suggested shortening the length of the two threaded ends to avoid being snagged when walking by--I cut 2 1/4 inches off and it makes a significant difference. I do wish the carrier had come with more specific instructions--it actually installs far more easily than I initially thought. Here's a tip...you do not need to buy bolts to snug it up. The lock holders actually do the job of snugging up the tire to the trailer frame.

Somehow the original lock was lost while changing a flat on my trailer so when I received this replacement I was very happy with how it fit and the ease of application. I would recommend this product.
