This review is from: Au Feminin (Audio CD)
Najoua Belyzel has a gift for creating catchy melodies that stick, similar to how the Backstreet Boys took on the pop culture generation in the 90s. Au Feminin is more excellent than "Entre Deux Mondes", more sombre and bittersweet with a Rachmaninovian tinge. Not to mention a stunning voice that demonstrates more powerful vocal capabilities than that we heard in her last album. This one is definitely worth a listen. However, after a week of reviewing, even the loveliest of her tunes reach their peaks. Her songs are rigidly accordance to the traditional sonata form - main theme, refrain, recapitulation, then refrain. The only song that doesn't follow this format is "Au Feminin". She does not seem as competent a lyricist as a melodist. It also seems as if the producers were starving for tracks and so they added in some old songs that never somehow made it out before, "Viens" for example. Her themes are various, as opposed to common, which are ballads about love, Mylene Farmer, a girl named Viola, et al.
