Book Description

1967
An unprecedented glimpse into the life of the æsthetic movement, reprinted for the first time in 80 years

The first ever biography of Aubrey Beardsley was written by one of his close friends and earliest patrons soon after his death, and is a fascinating and evocative document of the period. Robert Ross was one of the first people who Beardsley met when he arrived in London to make his name in 1892. Within six years he was dead, but the work he produced in that short time revolutionized art, and he was fixed forever in the public imagination as one of the leading spirits of the decadent era. This republication is a close copy of the first stand-alone edition of 1909, and includes the original illustrations and catalogue, and a new introduction.
