3.0 out of 5 stars Odor overpowering
I really like Aubrey Organics Blue-Green Algae anything, so I thought I would give this a try. The odor is overwhelming. It smells like super sweet baby powder, but 100 times as strong.

This review is from: Aubrey Organics - Gpb Hair Conditioner And Nutrient, 16 fl oz cream (Misc.)
I have been using GPB for maybe 2 years and it's a mainstay along with the Honeysuckle Rose. I use the honeysuckle rose as a regular conditioner and the GPB as a treatement/deep conditioner. I use it as a pre-shampoo treatment or an after shampoo treatment depending on how much time I have. Using this regularly has kept my hair strong and healthy, no breaking.

This product is not watered down, it is thick. There is no fluff such as mineral oil, it simply has great ingredients and lots of it. Because it is thick, it can be a bit difficult to get out of the bottle, but it is easy to apply.

I use it two ways depending on the day.

Option 1
I apply the GPB with a tad of EVO (extra virgin olive oil) to dry hair and cover with a plastic cap. I then exercise, study, do housework, do stuff online etc. I dont have a time frame anywhere from an hour to however long it takes me to finish what I am doing. In the shower I first rinse my hair very thoroughly and then shampoo and condition as usual.

Option 2
Beauty day. I Shampoo my hair as normal, and then condition my hair with the GPB. I cover with a plastic cap and then do my beauty routine (shower, exfoliate, shave, brush my finger and toe nails etc). After all that is done, I remove the plastice cap and rinse from hair to toe.

I personally love the smell of the GPB, but please remember that scent is a personal thing, it smells good to me, but someone else may not feel the same.
And a note to the ladies: so we are not 100% sure that parabens do cause breast cancer, but we know it is found in the breast tissue of women diagnosed with breast cancer. Why should we play Russian Roulet and take the chance when there are good products around like this that can keep us beautiful without the implied risk?

Hope this helps

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent conditioner!!!!, January 30, 2005

I LOVE this conditioner!!!!! You do have to leave it on for longer than most conditioners, but it's worth it! I like the smell (although it's pretty much undetectable after your hair is dry), and it really leaves my hair soft, shiny, & silky. It also feels nice on my scalp. I use this usually at least once a week--I alternate with other Aubrey conditioners depening on my mood (& amount of time I have). Aubrey Organics is a fabulous company who has made a fabulous, truly all-natural conditioner!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC Especially for African American hair, April 24, 2009
This review is from: Aubrey Organics - Gpb Hair Conditioner And Nutrient, 16 fl oz cream (Misc.)
I am an African American woman with very tightly coiled dry hair. I had my last relaxer over a year ago and have been working with natural hair for the first time in about 20 years. I have tried a LOT of products. Going Natural is very popular right now in oru community and it is not easy finding products that can make our hair manageable and truly soft especially the hair texture that I have. I highly recommend all of the shampoos and conditioners. They are remarkable and for the FIRST time I am getting what I expect from a product. The fact that the products are also safe for my hair and my health is reason to celebrate. You must try this product. My favorite is Honeysuckle Rose but I also have and love GP Protein, Island Naturals and one other that escapes me at the moment. They are all fantastic and worth the price. Try these products your hair will feel heathier and have a better texture than you could have imagined. You will also be doing a great thing for your health. So many cosmetic products are toxic nowadays. Companies do not have to disclose what they are really using. I checked Aubrey Organics on the EWG website that studies the toxicity of cosmetics and they got very good scores. This is an all around win, win product. I just wish they would make a larger bottle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff, -but underrated and underappreciated, August 28, 2006

(REAL NAME)
Have been using this product (and their Green Tea Shampoo, and the Swimmer's Shampoo) for well over a year now, and have had healthy, happy hair, which feels clean and soft. This GPB Conditioner offers much better detangling than some of the high-dollar "natural" products I've used (and for half the price).

I should mention that my (long) hair is color tortured, -I mean treated (both highlights and lowlights) monthly, plus gets a heavy-duty blow-drying daily (sometimes twice-daily in the summer), and the occasional flat iron. All of these combined and I still have minimal problems with damage.

Some people may be put off by the smell, but if you're buying natural, expect a "natural" smelling product. Personally I find it refreshing and invigorating (Rosemary is VERY good for you!). It's a relief to find a brand which _claims_ to be natural, and actually _is_. And as far as "natural" products go, Aubrey's really isn't that pricey.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST CONDITIONER ON THE PLANET, August 17, 2004
I've been using GPB from Aubrey's for a year and a half now, and I couldn't be more satisfied. All of Aubrey's products are 100 percent natural and now he even has a line of stuff that is 80 percent organic. Most of them are vegan too, if you care. My hubby loves it too, leaves our hair beautifully soft and managable. Aubrey's has a customer for life, all of the products are sooooo awesome! I also recommend: Ultimate Moist Unscented Lotion, Egyptian Henna Shampoo, Blue Camomile Shampoo, Golden Camomile Shampoo, Selenium Blue Shampoo, B-5 Design gel, Blue Algae Conditioner, Calagula Tar Scalp Treatment Shampoo, the Sensitive Skin Care line, I have used all of these personally, and our hair has never been healthier!! I also recommend Aubrey's Organic 100 Percent Rose Hip Seed Oil to rub on your nails about twice a week and around your eyes every night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only Conditioner that Works Dry Kinky Hair, September 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the only conditioner that actually worked on my dry, kinky, natural black hair. I have spent years trying to find something like this. I used top of the line products that were much more expensive (Aveda/Nioxin/Nexxus to name a few). They just sat on my hair left me thirsty for moisture. With Aubrey Organics GPB you notice the difference immediately. It leaves my hair soft and super moisturized-- something I was beginning to think my hair couldn't do. It is now my staple conditioner. I always use it as a deep conditioner on "dry hair". Because of this I wash (really deep condition-co-wash) my hair more often; and I actually look forward to washing. I believe this is my first review; this stuff is that good. Side note, It helps my hair hold water better; and I use it as a leave in mixture, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It, August 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love this. Well, I pretty much love ALL Aubrey Organics conditioners (not so much their shampoos, though).

Although this does have a bit of an odd, strong odor, it's not too bad. I combine this conditioners with olive oil in a separate little bottle and after mixing and sitting together, the smell lessens a bit, plus there's the added moisturizer of the olive oil. Also, I make sure to rinse very well after the conditioner sets in my hair. After blow drying, the smell isn't bad at all. And honestly, a little bit of an odd but not horrible smell in exchange for healthy, hydrated hair isn't so bad.

Once the bottle I have runs out, I will be buying more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary, April 3, 2011
Well, scent is a very subjective thing, but personally I think this stuff smells incredible. Does it smell like Herbal Essences? No, and thank god for that! But beyond the smell, my hair just adores this conditioner. The coconut fatty acid that makes up the bulk of this and many other Aubrey's conditioners is just divine. As you may or may not know, coconut oil is one of the best oils for your hair, because it penetrates into the hair shaft extremely well rather than just sitting on top of it. I can really feel this effect after using this product. For lack of a better way to describe it, my hair just feels happy. Overjoyed, even. The Aubrey's shampoos can be really hit or miss, since the soap content makes them really alkaline and thus quite rough on the hair (although this can be mostly remedied by using an apple cider vinegar rinse afterward to bring the pH back down) but their conditioners are truly something. I would happily pay twice as much!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best deep conditioner!, July 3, 2010
By
mica (Somewhere, USA) - See all my reviews
Personally, I love this product. I have been using it for about 10 years and have strayed away only once. I am an African American woman with waistlength, thick, soft, cottony-textured texlaxed/texturized/relaxed hair and I started using this product as a bone straight relaxed head. My hair is not naturally coarse, as a lot of people automatically think about AA hair. After going natural in 2002, I continued use of the product as it worked on my chemically treated and natural hair. After years of being natural, I kept using it, about once every 2 months with no problems. As of 2009, I am relaxed again and am still using this product. It never fails in helping give my hair that extra boost of strength and shine. I love the smell and the natural ingredients. I will probably start buying the 16oz bottle instead of 11oz, because of my longer hair. In my opinion, the milk protein in the product is a great alternative to all of these hard protein treatments out there like Aphogee. Try it, I think you'll love it!
