Over the past 3-4 years, I have owned more a dozen in-ear phones. Why? because I want to get the best sound from my MP3 players and tracks. I have spent as little as $15 (Koss Ksc75s, excellent value, by the way) and as much as $260 (a heavily discounted Westone 3, which are $399 MSRP). Right now, I am down to 5 pair of high end in-ear phones, and the Phonaks are the best I have ever owned, including the Westone 3s (this is based on my ears, of course).

The Perfect Fit Earphones (PFEs) deliver excellent mids and highs, and plenty of tight, accurate bass. No real weakness in my view. Very comfy too. Sometimes, they do seem a bit underpowered, in that they need a headphone amp to generate enough volume with 1-2 of my players (the Sansa Clip and Zune80), but others who own them don't have the same issue. I use a cheap amp on the go, made in China (called a FiiO E5). Google it if interested.

Anyway, if you own an iPod Touch or iPhone, the PFEs with the mic are great as well. I own the Touch 2G. Plenty of volume.

Best of all, Phonak gives U.S. and Canadian buyers a 14-day MBG. You can't lose. If you want the max sound quality from your player, this is the ticket. They also have filters that can change the focus from mids/highs (gray) to bass (black). I favor the latter, but sometimes switch to the former. You can EQ the bass a bit for the gray sleeves.

Only warning: If your music is ripped at low bitrates (below 192k), you may have to do some re-ripping, cause the PFEs are not forgiving for lousy rips.

Update. I recently added a pair of Sennheiser IE8s to my collection, and so far, they are pretty impressive. However, I still reach for the PFEs, but mainly when using a new amp I bought, the iBasso T4, which really brings out the best in the Phonaks.

As a result, I now almost always use the gray filters, amped, with Comply foamies for best SQ.

***Update (July 2nd):

The following product review concerns the older version of the perfect fit earphones. Upon contacting HearingPlanet Inc., they informed me that the new earphones (coming out August 2009) have an updated and stronger plastic casing (with the same sound quality I've come to enjoy). I can't express how much I'm impressed with their costumer service. I highly recommend this product.
July 1st:
I agree whole heatedly with the other reviews of the sound quality put out by these headphones. As soon as I received my first pair, I became hesitant to ever go to another brand. Yet, I should offer up a product quality issue.

After a month of normal use, I noticed that I was losing sound volume in my left ear. After a quick inspection, I noticed a mm sized hole in the plastic. I was quite surprised, so I wrote Audeo about the issue. I was expecting to have to send in my product for repair (as per the warranty; I'm used to dealing with Apple), when a brand new pair came in the mail. I can't speak highly enough about that type of costumer service.

Nevertheless, within the same time frame (6 weeks), the same thing occurred in my replacement pair! I noticed an absence of sound coming from my left earbud and once again found that little mm sized hole (in the same exact location!). Now, I promise all of you that my left ear is not made of carbon steel and I do not have sulfuric acid dripping from my inner ear. Given that I am a fan of the earphones as well as the company, I hope this is not a product defect affecting other sets. I, however, do feel I like I should disclose my experience. Best of luck with the earphones and I hope you don't have the dreaded hole appear in your pair.

The headphones stand for their name. The fit is perfect and it's very easy to get a perfect seal with the foam tips. They're VERY comfortable and there is no trouble in even sleeping with them on. I have to note that I never liked in ear-canal headphones before because for me they were never comfortable. I had to always use the smallest tips and that even gets very uncomfortable after even less than an hour of continuous use.

As for sound quality, the frequency response is quite flat. No coloring whatsoever. Those are probably the only headphones I have tried that "sounded" comfortable. No band stands out and you can hear details you probably won't hear using other headphones at the same price range.

The quality of bass response is excellent. You can hear the whole frequency range but many might prefer to fiddle around with the EQ and increase bass a bit. There is also the supplied set of audio filters (two types are included: one for increased high/mid range and one for increased low range response). I find the default gray (for high/mid) with a slight increase in EQ bass level suit my preference very well and haven't tried the black ones yet.

I didn't need any amp and I don't think I would need any with my walkman phone.

The package comes with a carrying case, 3 pairs of rubber tips, 1 pair of foam tips, a cleaning tool and 4 pairs of audio filters.

I would have preferred the wires to be of a higher quality (on the headphone side) but I would guess replacing the wires is possible since the headphones can be disassembled.
