Updated to reflect testing with battery.

I think there are four primary things to review about the application

1. The Audible Service
Audible is an audiobook service where you can buy books for your own devices. It stores the books that you have purchased and you can download them and listen to them at any time.
I am an avid audiobook listener. According to GoodReads I will hit about 90 books this year. The Audible store has almost all of the books I have wanted to read over the last couple of years. I listen to some from the library, but the books usually have a several week waiting time before they are available. They are always available for immediate download on Audible.

With the platinum subscription, 24 books for $230 about $9.60 per book. With specials, I usually get a several books a year for half that. Let's assume this is about $9.00 per book on average. This works out to be about the same cost as a paperback. Given that I can get books when they are first released, this is 2/3 of the price of the hard-cover version. For example, V is for Vengeance by Sue Grafton V is for Vengeance (Kinsey Millhone Mystery) is available for $26.32 on CD, and 15.37 in hardcover and on Kindle for 14.99. On Audible, I can get this for 9.58 and start listening in 2 minutes.

2. The Listening Experience
The Audible application recently received an upgrade and is updated a few times a year. The most recent upgrade allows me to listen to the book at different speeds .5x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x and 3x. My wife and I generally listen at normal speed. Through headphones I often like to listen at 3x. I was surprised how understandable it is.

I wish there were other options to listen to Audible content on my Android, because this app just isn't ready for release yet. I subscribe to a radio show (3~4 hours a day, 5 days a week) through Audible, and using this app to control the episodes become tedious very quickly.

1. The Library system is cumbersome. It is very difficult to manage shows more than a week old. On my device, any shows over a week old are no longer shown grouped with the more recent shows, and it becomes a scavenger hunt to find a screen that will show them. On top of that, older shows no longer show the date, which makes it difficult to figure out which show you're managing without playing it. Give me a screen that lists every show on the device, in chronological order (or any order I pick) with the show title and date prominently displayed, and you'll get another star.

2. There is no option to seamlessly start the next show when one is finished. Which means I need to go into the library system and try to figure out which show is next. There's no indication in the library system if a show has been played or not, and if I'm more than a week behind, as I said before there's no indication of the show date, either.

3. Sometimes it loses my Audible login information. Seems to happen randomly when I reboot the device. I've had to make my Audible password ridiculously easy to accommodate the Android keyboard.

4. There's no way I can find to completely delete the show "Your First Listen", which means it sits in my library listing taking up space.

Two stars because it does work to listen to Audible content. But the file management side needs serious work.

Let me start off by saying I generally listen to audiobooks at bedtime and tend to nod off after a while so being able to backtrack and search to a point I recognise is a priority and therefore decent navigation functionality essential.

I've only got one book in the library so can't comment on that side of things but as a playback app, the interface is hopeless, especially at really long books (40 hours). My gripes mainly relate to the search/playback functions.

* There's only one positioning slider for the whole book. On a 40 hour book, this makes manual positioning with any accuracy impossible. It doesn't help that you have to slide the slider from it's original position. Simply tapping on the bar doesn't work. The slider really needs to be done on a chapter by chapter basis.

* There's no way to manually type in the time when you would like to start.

* The Fast forward/Rewind buttons do not really work. The playback sample is so short, you can't tell where you are from the audio that's being played. Better to have a 1-2 sec playback every x secs so you can recognise where you're at.

* The skip forward, skip back functionality is on another 'button-free' screen that's achieved by swiping. Not only is this screen possibly the most ugly thing in the world, it is incredibly flawed because if you swipe for too long, you end up accidently swiping to the next or previous chapter (and in the process losing your position in the current chapter). Surely the skip forward/back buttons ought to be on the main playback screen (my preference would be to replace the fastforward/rewind buttons but ymmv). Also swapping between the two screens is not as straightforward as it could be.

Audible app - does it work on a Kindle?
It does not work on the new HD which is very disappointing for us badge addicts. The only way to access on HD is throw the main menu->audio books.
