5.0 out of 5 stars These Nights I Get High Just from Breathing..., October 23, 2003
By
This review is from: Audio Boxer (Audio CD)
When I bought Something Corporate's Audioboxer EP, I knew absolutely nothing about them. I was in my local record store with exactly seven dollars in my pocket... I wasn't planning on buying anything, until I saw that this CD was only five bucks. Figuring I couldn't go wrong for that price, I decided to buy it. Needless to say, I was very pleasantly surprised.

Something Corporate instantly impressed me with the catchy opening tune "Hurricane." It blended piano, guitar, and melodic vocals perfectly. This quickly became one of my favorite tracks on the six-song EP.

The lead single from the band is track number two: "If You See Jordan." Again, it's catchy and enjoyable. It's a bit whiny... but the perfect anthem for anyone who was picked on as a kid. (I have a story, a bitter anthem/For everyone to hear about this kid who just don't like me/And that's a solid fact/They say he's hunting me, and as you see/I'm all swelled up with fear/Cause I can't get him off my back)

"Punk Rock Princess" is another great track, one of the standouts. It sounds much more raw and unpolished than the others. It's followed by "Bad Day" and "Little," two tracks that I like, but don't love. I never grew attached to these two songs (especially "Little"), though I do listen to them often. Both are admirable efforts, but they don't match up to some of the other songs. Still, both are better than most mainstream efforts.

Which brings me to the greatest song Audioboxer has to offer: "Walking By." It's an incredibly beautiful song that tells a thoughtful story. Present here are some wonderful lyrics, and some absolutely amazing vocal work. Simply beautiful, this song was worth the price of the CD alone.

Something Corporate is a talented band that has a great ability to blend many different sounds into one and make it work. Audioboxer is a wonderful example of how music should be done.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's just that good..., October 23, 2002
By
This review is from: Audio Boxer (Audio CD)
I had first heard of Something Corporate before "Audioboxer" even came out. I purchased a Drive-Thru records compilation cd and got my first taste of the band with the songs "Konstantine" (probably the best song...ever. everyone MUST listen to that 9 minute masterpeice) and "iF yoU C Jordan". I wanted more.

...

The first Track "Hurricane (The Formal Weather Pattern)" is simply amazing. Wonderful lyrics and the way Andrew uses the piano is genuis. Simply that. Every song on "Audioboxer" is defenately a gem. But the one that stands out the most is "Walking By", emotional and beautiful. One of the best ballads I've heard in a long time. Everything about this song is simply amazing. Andrews unique and powerful voice over the piano and strings. The strings add so much to this song. The lyrics are kinda crypitic, but just adds to the wonderfulness of the song.

All in all, it is worth every penny. It's a must-have if you own "Leaving Through The Window". =) Expect much success from this band...

5.0 out of 5 stars Something Corporate Shines., August 27, 2004
This review is from: Audio Boxer (Audio CD)
Like so many bands on Drive-Thru Records that come out with amazing EPs, Something Corporate is no different. Their debut EP, Audio Boxer, is a unique, and refreshing experiance. From the first to last song, Audio Boxer displays Something Corporate piano driven rock.

1. '(Hurricane) The Formal Weather Pattern' - They redid this song for the full length, but i feel this sounds better. It starts with just a beautiful acoustic guitar and Andrew's vocals. The chorus is more rocking, and its very catchy. All this before an amazing piano solo. A great opener to the EP.
2. 'If You C Jordan' - The first single, and probably my least favorite on the EP. I do like it, but i feel the lyrics are a bit too inmature. It does have catchy chorus, but after awhile, it does get a bit annoying. Another track which they redid for the full length.
3. 'Punk Rock Princess' - Once again, redone for the full length, and once again, there isnt a difference between the EP and LP versions. Its a very catchy song and fusions Something Corporate's pop-punkness with Andrew's piano skill.
4. 'Bad Days' - Another great song. It's slighty slower paced, but its beautiful. The lyrics are really good as well.
5. 'Little' - The chorus for this song is one of the catchiest on the record, and will be stuck with you. Good lyrics as well.
6. 'Walking By' - This is my favorite track on the record. It's the slowest song on the EP, and the most beautiful. The lyrics are absolutly beautiful. This is the record's gem.

Overall, Something Corporate debut EP shows the world who they are. Unlike their following records, the sound on this is far more rawer. It does show how much Something Corporate has progressed and grown in such a short period.
