5.0 out of 5 stars Nothingface might be gone but their legacy lives
What happens in America when a band proves time and time again they are the top of their class? Fame? Fortune? Respect? Unfortunatly not, what's more likely to happen is that they will be screwed over by their label, ignored for bands with 1/1000000 of their talent and then finally when it seems like their about to get a break, get dropped from their tour and label and...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a good cd but not perfect in any sense of the word
Yes it is a decent cd. The guitar work on the cd is very technical and well above average. That's where the above mediocrity ends. The drummer and bassist are just plain, nothing special to them at all. The singer (screamer is more appropiate of a title) is good at wailing and screaming but his singing is flat and not very good. They are good at guitars, screaming,...

What happens in America when a band proves time and time again they are the top of their class? Fame? Fortune? Respect? Unfortunatly not, what's more likely to happen is that they will be screwed over by their label, ignored for bands with 1/1000000 of their talent and then finally when it seems like their about to get a break, get dropped from their tour and label and have to quit because they just can't stand it anymore. In case you haven't figured it out, I'm talking about Nothingface. Who called it quits about a month ago. Enough of my b^tching about the American music scene though and onto the review.

Everday Atrocity is one of the only true gems produced in America and one of the most intense records ever. As far as this compares to the rest of the Nothingface catalog, I would say it's the best or shares that title with Skeletons. Somewhat lackluster production takes away from this a bit but not in a major way. Matt Holt sings/screams with an intensity somewhat lacking on later efforts and this is undoubtably his best performance ever. The guitars are nothing exceptional which is somewhat expected of this kind of straight forward music. You won't hear a million solos per minute or a hundred different genres crammed into a 40 minute song but they definitly know how to write riffs that add to the intensity of the album. The rhythem section holds very well in that somehow they make the insane intensity of this album catchy. If you like Slipknot, Fear Factory, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Strapping Young Lad, God Forbid or any of the other bands that blend hardcore with singing vocals then you owe it to yourself to check out this album. If you haven't already, I recommend checking out the bands mentioned above in addition to this.

R.I.P. Nothingface

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely KILLS, June 28, 2000

Nothingface are a CLASSIC example of great hard music getting no notice because of the giant mainstream barrier that's been put up, seemingly to stop any band with talent to rise into MTV/radio airplay status. These guys are simply amazing and this album is among the best I've heard in the genre, ever, period.

Take "Breathe Out" for example (my favorite song on the CD.) This song is more skillfully written and executed than anything you'll hear on the radio now - Korn and Limp Bizkit couldn't TOUCH Nothingface in that department. The searing riffs, climatic intro and killer vocal styles of the singer (and I say "singer" and really mean it here) definitely add up to make a classic metal anthem. Too bad 90% of the countless MTV-ites don't know who the hell these guys are, because missing out on songs like "Breathe Out" and "Villains" is a real downer - but oh well, the ones who really count in terms of their fanbase know who they are and love them for what they do, and the respect is definitely well-earned after listening to such awesome albums like "An Audio Guide..." Every single member stands out in some way on their own particular instrument; the most prominent here being the singer, as I said before. His Chino Moreno-esque melodic/harsh transitions (but not as high-pitched) really give the music a great atmosphere. Though countless other bands do this by now - Ultraspank and Kilgore come to mind first - Nothingface have a rare way of grabbing you by doing so. At first listen, I liked it better than "Adrenaline" by Deftones, and that says quite a lot.

Overall, if you're into Primer 55, Staind, Sevendust, or even Sepultura, you'll want to pick this up. It's worth 10 stars and I'd give it that rating if I could, and you probably will too. Trust me.

This record is one that you should own if you like heavy music. I view this record as a blueprint for alot of the bands that are big in the hardcore scene right now. Back in '98 not that many bands where screaming AND singing on the same song. And what the hell happened to them anyway. This is way better than Pacifier. I saw these guys live down in Misissippi once. They were really good, just ripped everyone all to hell. Anyway, listen to "Villains", "The Sick" and "Goldtooth". And then go punch someone in the face.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best out there right now, May 30, 2001

Nothingface is a must for any hard music fan...and I'm talking true metal... These guys are fierce, have a lot of energy, and play hard. Best of all, they're young, which means they have a lot of years of making music ahead of them. The drummer is fierce. If you thought you've heard a drummer that hits hard, wait until you hear this guy! The bass is deafening. It's a wonder my walls haven't fallen in my room yet from me playing this CD so loud. While the guitarist isn't the fastest in the business, he really knows his stuff. His riffs are just too awesome. The singer (Matt Holt) is the one to watch out for. His screams are probably the best out there right now of any metal band, except for maybe Burton Bell of Fear Factory. His screams are very harsh and deep, yet he can sing with the best of them. The best part is you can just hear how much they all get in to playing. You can feel it as you're listening to the songs. The best ones on the album would probably be "So Few", "Villians", and "I, Diablo". Get this album now if you need some good metal in your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars I know I already reviewed this, but...., October 17, 2000

I have to say something to "A music fan from Robbinsville, NJ United States" If you can't stand the lyrics, why don't you go back and listen to some bubblegum-pop for those non offensive lyrics. I think you read the lyrics and let them shadow your judgement. The singer is very good (Like to see you sing like that) The guitarist is also very good (I guess when you don't play guitar...) The bassist is again also very good. The lyrics may be graphic, but are very well written. Ether your one of those idiot mothers of the world, insisting that every movie should be rated g, and all music should be like Brittany Spears (God forbid!) Or your a wuss. I really don't care how graphic lyrics are (With the exception of Cannibal Corpse. Dude, if you want to be offended...) So how about you shut up and accept that if you don't like a band, that doesn't mean they're talentless. P.S. It's simple minded retards like you that spawn MTV and the likes, only caring on subject or image, never caring about how good the music is. If the band looks like some Baywatch guys, they're aways get radio time or MTV total request live time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Nothingface CD, February 23, 2002
This review is from: Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity (Audio CD)
After purchasing all of the Nothingface CDs, I must say that Everyday Atrocity is the best of the three. This is quite possibly one of the greatest metal CD's ever created.

Every band member has a distinct talent. Matt Holt (vocals) can go from a death metal scream to a melodic tone in merely a split second. His lyrics might be a bit graphic, but they are still excellent. Tom Maxwell (guitars) is unbelievable. He can be at an acoustic guitar sound to a loud metal guitar in no time, and he has some of the best riffs I have ever heard on a metal CD in a long time. Chris Houck (drums) is just flat out amazing. Other than Joey Jordison from Slipknot, I think that Chris is the best metal drummer out there. Bill Gaal (bass) is just as good as anyone else. His bass lines are excellent. Nothing else said. No instrument stands out, everything is even, which lets you hear the talent of each member of the band.

Even though there are only 9 songs, and they sum up to exactly 38 minutes, every song is good. And it never seems to leave my CD player. I highly recommend this CD to any metal fan.

Best Songs - "Goldtooth", "Grinning", "I, Diablo", "The Sick"

5.0 out of 5 stars $&%?+@! Amazing! Why aren't these guys more popular?, April 16, 2000
This review is from: Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity (Audio CD)
This is an INCREDIBLE cd! One of the only cds i can actually play all the way through without getting bored. The Drummer Chris Houck is hands down the best i've EVER heard. Song number 8 contains the most amazing display of the drums i've ever heard. He actually makes the drums sound like a musical instrument. Songs number 2,4,6,and 7 all display amazing drums and guitars. Matt Holt is one of the few people who can scream relentlessly and then bust out into a soft melody. Also, the background vocals of the guitarists are the best ive heard on an album (maybe except for project 86's bg vocals). I would best describe nothingace's sound as a mixture of Fear Factory, spineshank, deftones, and a little Ultraspank. Buy it now! 1

5.0 out of 5 stars overwhelming..., August 1, 2002

This review is from: Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity (Audio CD)
i notice lots of people calling nothingface nu metal...
that they are defenitely not theyve been in the underground scene for a long time kicking... the whole way. dont even try to compare them to another band because nothingface has a sound that is all their own.
pacifier was good but the diversity wasnt there. and violence is amazing and very [edgy]but something seemed to be missing...

atrocity is still to me what is nothingfaces best effort, they had something going that was very powerful. matt would scream like a mad man and then hed show his remorseful side at the stop of a dime. the vocals are very sincere and emotional. its really a shame that people try to throw nothingface into groups with disturbed and korn.

they are very talented... at first listen it may not seem so but they have lots of complex riffs and timeing structures. and despite noise and melody pattern which isnt bad to start with matts performance is very enthusiastic and other times very dark. there are various samples and voice clips and ambient things such as piano and static used to make an incredibly vibrant atmosphere. standout tracks are error in excellence the sick and sleeper villains is also very groove laden...if nothingface doesnt get you moving then somethings wrong with you.it rips the flesh as quickly as it bandages the wound. this album is brutal and heavy... and to me heaviness is measured in feeling not how angry it is. buy this album and the other two and see them live theyre even more amazing then. not a single thing wrong with this band... so if youre tired of of all the [stuff] mtv is feeding you. then check this album out.

the best way i can describe nothingface is think of a band with a singer that screams like corey from slipknot but heavier, and sings very quietly and sounds like a child throwing a tantrum at times. and on top of that lay vibrant complex riffs that are heavy as hell, also with a good amount of clean strums and even acoustic sounds, bass doesnt follow the guitar so closely and percussion has a hardcore hip hop feel. the music is very hip hop influenced... not rap metal but youd have to hear it to get what i mean. great stuff... nu metal they are not, not that nu metal is all bad these people just dont know alot of good underground music... this album grows on you with time.

5.0 out of 5 stars An audio guide to shear emotional musicality, June 29, 2000

Are you ready to take an audio tour of your deepest, darkest, most painful aural experiences and allow yourself to be hurled into the extremes of emotional, musical expression with Nothingface? You had better be if you intend on experiencing the full breath of ...Everyday Atrocity. Hailing from the backstreets of Washington DC's socio-polotical wasteland the quartet's assault on the senses comes from every angle with lyrics only matched by the musical aggression emanating forth from with each member. Lying in a middle ground between mid-Atlantic hardcore and American thrash, the nearly hour long onslaught of Tom Maxwell's frantic guitar riffs is continually treaded upon by the angst of Matt Holsts's schizophrenic vocals. With an underbelly made up of wandering, counterpoint basslines and drumming bordering on polyrhythmic, Nothingface are a lethal combination of undulating musical aggression. The lullaby inspired beauty of the melodies is often crashed like an overturned crib by the utter violence of Holsts' guttural wails and mirrored with stunning turns in musical direction by the rest of Nothingface. This effectively takes the listener to parts of their mind, body and soul they only experience in the nightmare of the psyche throughout the band's sophomore effort. ...Everyday Atrocity is about confronting demons within. It is the soundtrack for internal emotional animosity, paralleled as if one were to score the stunning beauty and utter

violence of a volcanic eruption. Bursting at the seams with intense emotional drama lyrics and expressive musical ideals, this is a mini-epic of scathing dynamics, bi-polar execution, driving riffs, technical performance and unadorned physical and psychological pain. Be prepared, for Nothingface are not for the week of heart or mind and ...Everyday Atrocity easily lives up its title, taking all around it on a tour deep into the turmoil of the mind and spirit and commanding unabridged aural control.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic...R.I.P. Nothingface 1995-2004, April 25, 2005
This review is from: Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity (Audio CD)
I paid 17 bucks for this...I normally don't pay over ten bucks for CD's, but I couldn't find this used, as a lot of people like Nothingface, so I bought it for 17 bucks. None of those 17 bucks were wasted. You are probably thinking that Nothingface is "yet another nu metal band". Wrong. Nothingface, unlike many of the carbon copies, know how to deliver some brutal stuff. These tracks are all classics. "Breathe Out", "Goldtooth" and "So Few" are the best tracks on this CD, along with "Grinning", "The Sick" and "I, Diablo". I recommend this for people like me who don't necessary like nu metal, but they like the stuff by artists such as Helmet, Vision Of Disorder, Earth Crisis, Will Haven and Killswitch Engage. I guarantee that you will not waste a minute of your time. Calling this "nu metal" would be an insult. This is just straight forward metal.
