That's right -- fun. And isn't that the whole purpose of rock & roll in the first place? The Frantic excel at just that -- rocking out.
I can't say enough good things about this album. In the spirit of all the best punk and pop punk milestones of the past, it is uptempo, hook-laden, reverby, and SHORT, but in a good way. Many of the best punk albums of all time have not even exceeded the 20-minute mark (e.g., "Group Sex" by the Circle Jerks, the Angry Samoans' "Back From Samoa," and "Victim In Pain" by Agnostic Front). Listening to the duration of "Audio & Murder" only takes up 26 minutes of your life and there is no filler to be found. The underground buzz about this band is at a fever pitch currently and I can see why. The band hail from the Orland Park/Lockport area and along with Blue Island's Mest are two of the best bands to put Chicago's south and southwest suburbs on the map for great pop punk and plain old rock & roll. With explosive opener "We're The Frantic," I am reminded of the classic three chord harmonies of bands from long past like the Sex Pistols and the Clash, but in a 2007-'08 style. Guitarist/vocalist Kyle Dee is at 18 a burgeoning rock & roll entrepreneur and as I have read in interviews with him, is down with classic punk bands of the past like these and the Buzzcocks. The rest of the band is not far past him age wise and the overriding innocence and youthful exuberance of the proceedings here are what make this album great and are things that are sorely lacking in many older bands jaded by age and the pressures of adulthood. As long as there are three chords and disaffected teens, this sound will live on. If you are out to rock out and have a good time, make this one a "Frantic Summer" and pick this CD up without further hesitation.
