Product Description

The rich, warm sound takes you back to the classic F.E.T. studio microphones. But there’s nothing remotely old-fashioned about the technology behind that vintage sound. The AT4047/SV studio condenser’s dual-diaphragm capsule design maintains precise polar pattern definition across the full frequency range. With a wide dynamic range, incredibly low self-noise and high SPL capability, this versatile microphone excels on vocals, strings, acoustic guitar, instrument ensembles, small vocal groups and voiceovers.

Stunning and worth every penny!

It sounded great on every voice I used it on whether my baritone, a friend's tenor, or another friend's soprano.

(1) Why I bought it: I set up a home recording studio and after reading numerous reviews this was the mic I chose for vocals.
(2) Cost: At under $600, it's a fair price for the quality of microphone it is. In reading some of the reviews, other authors stated that this microphone can be found in professional studios.
(3) Ease of Use: It was pretty easy to set up. In my ignorance it took me a little while to realize that the bottom stem goes through the rubber band so that the base of the microphone rests on it. At first I tried to fit the rubber band around the body of the microphone.
(4) Quality: Wow! It sounds incredible and picks up everything. I had to move a UPS into another room because it was humming and I was picking up some of the ambient noise. I may try to do some wall baffles, or maybe even build a sound booth one day.
(5) Features: It comes in a foam insulated case that is great for storage. It even has a nice cloth bag to cover the microphone when not in use. The microphone mount is very stable and screwed onto my microphone stand with out any difficulties.
(6) Overall: An excellent microphone; I would recommend the AT4047 to anyone looking to own a condenser microphone.

I bought this mic primarily because I wasn't ready for a tube (and the maintenance correlated with them), but I was looking for a similar warm presence boost for my home studio recording. I've only tried it on vocals as of right now, and wow- it exceeds my expectations. As other reviews have stated, this mic does a great job of warming up your vocals and placing them at the front of the mix. I never EQ'd the first session I used this mic, because I didn't have to. Even with drums, synths, bass, and guitars all placed in the mix, my vocals easily stood out. If you're looking for a mic under $1,000 that has this kind of presence in order to make your vocals sound bigger than life... buy this mic. Stunning and worth every penny!

If you are buying a large diaphragm microphone there is only 1 thing you should concern yourself with, sound quality. I have tried several mics out in the recent past and really have found that the AT4047 is a fantastic LD microphone. With a large price tag you might think that this mic is over priced compared to the AT4040 or other brands like AKG c3000 but you really need to compare this mic with much higher price mics like the AKG c414. These are very high quality mics and will make your recordings enhance very quickly. So when you compare it to these other mics you are saving $300 or $400 dollars over its competitors.

This microphone ( AT 4047 ) is just what I was looking for. I've tried so many over the years and and there are a lot of great ones, but this one suits my voice well and it works well on the bass drum and other things,Too. The LDC that I had been using is fine for some things ,but it was a little bright or brittle for me . When I sing into this 4047 ,it's smooth and easy.
