The roll-off position reduces the pickup of low-frequency ambient noise (such as traffic, air-handling systems, etc.), room reverberation and mechanically coupled vibrations.

This microphone is excellent. I got an awesome price on a refurbed item and it is easily as good as new. It is important to note that this mic is extra long and does not sit evenly in the cheaper shock mounts. It is compatible with the Rycote WS4 zeppelin and windjammer.
