So I got these headphones last year and I pretty much know them inside/out (literally), and I can proudly say I absolutely love them. I used them with no modifications for the first 6 months and I decided a while back that I would try and improve the thing that required some people myself included to use the "rubber band mod" I posed pictures of what I did in the Customer photo section but basically I made it so the springs that let the "wings" move is harder to compress so the flex of the plastic pretty much all that takes care of the "adjustable" aspect of the wings.

Another thing I did was a "cable mod" because I found the 3M(9.8') cable to long for my tastes, so I now use a 3' male to male audio cable and a V-MODA mic cable thingy(....also a tad long :c ) I used a simple generic 3.5mm stereo jack to do it and it was a fairly difficult thing to do. I thought I ruined them for like 2hrs but took them back apart only to find 2 of 3 wired were soldered to the wrong tabs on the jack. After that they sounded just as they did before but now with the cables I prefer that don't keep their coiled shape throughout the time you have them.

Yet another thing I that you will probably noticed in the pictures I posted is that I am now using the Leather pads from the Closed back ATH-A-series of headphones. To be honest I thought the cloth pads were a bit hot to wear after more than 2hrs so at $24 I decided to try the Leather pads. The Leather pads do keep only a little cooler but they had another affect, the bass is more substantial. Granted its not by much maybe 5% greater bass but its enough for me to notice. I'm by no means an audio expert but I can only assume the cloth pads don't have as good a seal as the Leather pads.

I have both the AD-ATH700 and these. The ATH700X is not an "improved" model. Same speakers so the same clarity and everything you'd expect, but everything else about them is worse. It feels like they have attempted to cut costs with things like the cable which is forever curly, the plug is now plastic, the paddles that are supposed to hold the headphones up are weak, flimsy and useless.
I recommend buying the original Audio Technica ATH-AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones unless you feel a compelling reason to own a flimsier, cheaper feeling product that they've released since.

PS4 + Astro's MixAmp, I cannot believe at how amazing the sound quality is for gaming. I'll never buy another pair of Turtle Beach or any other 'gaming headsets' again.

Originally I was about to buy the ATH-AD700 but came across these as the new improved version so bought these instead. I originally bought these headphones for gaming and just assumed that these would be better than the AD700 (don't know if they really are). For gaming they are okay depending on what you're buying them for. If you're buying them for competitive gaming, yes they are great headphones. The clarity on them are amazing. However if you are buying it for fun and want to enjoy the sound effects of things blowing up, etc, these are not for you. The bass to too minimal to make it a great headphone for non-competitive gaming.

The reason I'm still giving these a 5star review even though I'm not completely satisfied for what I wanted to accomplish is because the sound quality is amazing on these headphones. I listen to a lot of instrumental music and these headphones are awesome. If you're looking for a good headphones with amazing sound quality but don't care too much about bass, these are it for a great price.

Pros:
Sound Quality
Extremely Comfortable

Cons:
The metal mesh on the headphones seem like they can easily get damaged

Neutral:
Bass (depends on user)

I own these. I just wanted to comment on an aspect nobody else seems to have hitupon:
Durability: Let's be honest here, these look flimsy as s***, Thing , double tube over the head, the wings...yes, they look flimsy.
Well, let me just say this: Audio Tehchnica had the foresight to make the wings forcibly 'eject' from their spot if too much force hits them in the wrong direction. I full on sat on them when my town's power was out for about 2 hours. I was sitting full-force, you know, where yo ukinda just drop down into the chair when your butt is close enough to the seat? All I can hear is CRACK. I was so, so, so very mad. The wing snapped off.
When the power came back on, I saw that the wing had forcibly detached itself , with both 'pegs' that connect them to the headphone frame completely intact.. I couldn't believe it. You and I both know, one of those pegs ALWAYS snaps off and you can't connect it anymore (e.g.: those flaps behind your keyboard than tilts and raises the back of the keyboard. Always snaps on eoff.)

It took me all of 40 seconds to figure out how to reattach it (shut up, wings aren't standard!). It was lined up evenly with the wing that didn't leave its home, and had full range of motion as the other one did. No adverse effect.

*** Everything else will be short. All thes are covered in lots of other reviews.

Sound quality: Crisp mid/high reproduction. Bass is clear, not overpowered, may sound 'weak' to hiphop and dubstep enthusiasts, but a little equalizer bump in the low frequencies makes all right. The bass CAN be big, if you want it to.

Price: Decent. More than one competing company has headphones in this price range, notably Sennheiser and Pioner.
