3.0 out of 5 stars A good addition
I used these tapes to prepare for October's PCAT exam. I probably listened to each section about 5 times. I found the biology review the most helpful, while the general chemistry section was very short. On the other hand, 2 of 6 sides are devoted to organic chemistry, which gets less attention on the exam. The organic chemistry section was not useful until I went back...

These disks will help you greatly if you are a person who has a decent understanding of the material, but needs a review of the important stuff. The biology section is particularly helpful, since much of the biology tested is learned through memorization. The chemistry parts are also helpful, but you have to keep in mind that most people will need other references to help with the visual aspects of the subjects.

All you need for the PCAT are these disks and a book that reviews these subjects to use a reference/supplementation. I used Audiolearn and older Kaplan MCAT review books and did pretty well: 99% composite, or a score of 472 when you add up the 5 sections. I listened to these disks whenever I was driving, and only referenced the books for test questions and to look up specific questions that I had. I found that listening to the material was much more efficient than reading the stuff myself, especially since it's not wise to read while driving.

4.0 out of 5 stars AudioLearn PCAT, February 5, 2001
This review is from: AudioLearn : PCAT (Audio Cassette)
Great content, however, I did not listen to the material for very long because the reader's diction left something to be desired. He slurred the pronunciation of scientific terms. Example: "thi-mine" instead of "thi-a-mine"; pronounced "anti" unlike a scientist, etc. I found myself correcting his pronunciation and missing out entirely on the contents. If you think the folksy pronunciation will not bother you, get this study guide. It's very well written and progresses in a logical manner. The author did a fabulous job of gathering and presenting the information.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good addition, March 14, 2003

I used these tapes to prepare for October's PCAT exam. I probably listened to each section about 5 times. I found the biology review the most helpful, while the general chemistry section was very short. On the other hand, 2 of 6 sides are devoted to organic chemistry, which gets less attention on the exam. The organic chemistry section was not useful until I went back to my text books and did a thorough review. Unless organic chemistry is fresh in your head, the tape will be useless. I wouldn't depend on these tapes alone to prepare for the PCAT, but buy them if you can listen while you do somthing else, like commute, for additional review when you otherwise wouldn't be sitting at your desk studying. I scored great, but I think I probably could have done so without the tapes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Listening, September 2, 2005
This review is from: AudioLearn : PCAT (Audio Cassette)
Preparing for the PCAT can be a daunting task. These tapes can really take the edge off of the stress brought on by Pharmcas, the PCAT, and your grades. I just simply listen to them in my car, while jogging, or while trying to fall asleep, and I feel as though I studied. The only draw back, as far as I can tell, is that they do not tell you how to take the PCAT. What I mean is that they don't offer any problem solving advice. The tapes are strictly an informational review, and I still would study with other materials as well. It may take a couple sessions with each tape to grab up all of the information, but they are worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best PCAT Prep. Money can buy!, December 15, 2000

This package is probably what got me into Pharmacy school. I listened to these tapes a couple of times and then I did questions from old exams and I scored Awesome. These tapes are really comprehensive and they cover everything you need to know. Listening to these tapes helps you remember all those little things that are thought in undergrad science clases but everyone forgets. I really recommend this product to anyone planning to take the PCAT. Great Product. GOOD LUCK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Biology Review, May 1, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: AudioLearn : PCAT (Audio Cassette)
I used these tapes to help me prepare for the recent March 2003 PCAT and scored in the 94th percentile. I found the tapes to be a definite help as it has been like 6 years since I had College Biology. Like mentioned in other reviews, I found the Biology portion to be most helpful. The Chemistry section is kind of weak and you should order additional review materials like the Cliffs Quick Notes. $... is steep but consider it an investment in what hopefully is a successful pharmacy career.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not that great!, January 2, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AudioLearn : PCAT (Audio Cassette)
I bought the AudioLearn:PCAT in order to prepare for the upcomming PCAT in March. The pack contains 3 cassette tapes which are divided into 3 parts: biology, general chemistry and organic chemistry. The price of the product is not [inexpensive] and I expected to learn a lot from it. However, what I got was far lower than my expectation. The tapes only contain very brief reviews of all the materials in those three courses and the voice of the narrator is quite dull. Moreover, the product did not emphasize a lot on general chemistry (it only has 1 tape side for general chemistry) while general chemistry is the main theme in the chemistry part in PCAT. In biology, the cell is very brieftly introduced and the anatomy and physiology of all the organelles in the cell are not fully explained....

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Study Guide for PCAT, November 17, 2002

These tapes were my primary source of studying for the PCAT. I listened to them in the car while driving and once at home the night before the test. I found that the biology sections were the most helpful. For chemistry, you are better off just working out problem sets. I just got my results and I scored at the 98th percentile overall and at the 98th percentile for biology. I attribute the biology score to these tapes. When I was taking the test, I could hear the voice on this tape in my head and the answer was there.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Science Review, December 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: AudioLearn : PCAT (Audio Cassette)
I listened to these tapes in the car during my commute to school every day. I listened to them about three times, and they made for very efficient use of my time. Much of the material was on the PCAT exam. It is an excellent science review. But be sure it is just that: a review. Don't expect to learn everything from these tapes if you've never had Biology or Chemistry before. Overall, I found the tapes extremely helpful. You will remember more from them than you would think.
