Audio Source Amp 300,
By
This review is from: AudioSource Amp 300 High-Current Stereo Amplifier (150 Watts x 2) (Electronics)
The review indicating a reviewer's "10 year" satisfaction with this product is misleading. The AudioSource Amp 300 replaced the venerable Audio Source Model Four in roughly 2005, so the reviews from those who claim to have had the product for about 18 months to two years are more "on target".I have owned both the older Model Four and the newer Amp 300. In many ways, the Model Four is a better product. For one thing, it sports two large power-output meters on the front chassis while the Model 300 lacks the meters and sports a more austere design. Both have the same output characteristics and both are "bridgeable". Where the Model Four also meets expectations is that, for me at least, the one and only unit I have ever owned is still operating perfectly, while my first Model 300 was dead-on-arrival and its replacement has now failed after only about 15 months of light use. This is truly unfortunate in that the other Audio Souce products I own, an older equalizer and pre-amp, have, like the Model Four, performed flawlessly since purchase. One can only speculate that, perhaps, the company has experienced difficulty with the redesign from the Model Four to the Amp 300, and that, also, quality may be an issue since the company was acquired at about the same time as the new models were introduced. I've contacted the warranty and sales department at Audio Source, and, hopefully, will have good news to report from that front if I can get satisfaction regarding repair or replacement.

Disappointed,
This review is from: AudioSource Amp 300 High-Current Stereo Amplifier (150 Watts x 2) (Electronics)
Sad to say it's true. Very disappointed with AudioSource, they normally offer good products for the money. This isn't one.Ordered and received an AudioSource Amp 300 (new) about three months ago and was using it to drive a pair of JBL 4412 studio monitors. After about three months of use, the right channel died. I verified the right channel of this amp had indeed failed by swapping audio inputs and the speaker outputs. Still no right channel. I never abused this amp in anyway. Living in a apartment, volume levels were always kept low and I had the amp placed on a shelve with plenty of ventilation. Even after hours of use, it barely felt warm to the touch. I realize this is an inexpensive amp, but failing this quickly after light use is no excuse. I own several other audiosource products that are several years old and they still work wonderfully. That's why I must give this AudioSource Amp 300 a poor rating. It has a flawed design and I recommend to look elsewhere.

Works great while it works.,

No problems with this amplifier while it was working, but it quit working after less than two years. If you are thinking of buying this amplifier, I would suggest you continue to look.

This amp is cheap, but you get what you pay for. I was using to drive 4 speakers (8 ohm bridged). After just 6 months of bi-weekly use, it stopped working.

After six months of mostly sitting idle in a cool basement with very little playing time, my Amp 300 gave up the ghost too. It just dims the lights as it blows a circuit breaker. After a couple of goes at that, it does nothing at all. I thought about sending it back, but quickly realized that with such poor quality, I don't want even a replacement to be connected to my expensive speakers at all. I don't want them destroyed too the next time it goes out. I am getting a Niles SI-2125.

DOA,
This review is from: AudioSource Amp 300 High-Current Stereo Amplifier (150 Watts x 2) (Electronics)
I was hesitant on purchasing this Amp300 after all the bad reviews but I have an Amp 100 that I have liked for 1yr now with no problems. After opening the Amp300 and hooking it up, no sound - DOA. I tried multiple inputs and phone call with Audio Source. It seems to me that Audio Source does not have any quality control and does not check their items before sending them out. Not good. I am returning this unit for a refund and will not try another Amp300 after this experience and considering all the other bad reviews. Seems there are a lot of bad units. Weird thing is Audio Source told me they fixed the problems with Amp300 before I purchased. I beg to differ.

I ran into some DIY speakers...made with great hardware (scan-speak, morel). These towers had 4 drivers wired in parrelel/series yeilding less than 4 ohms (around 3.6). Even then these monsters were not very efficient at 88db. So, I was in need of some quick power and picked up the Amp 300 for around $200.I ran home replaced the current amp (adcom 75x2) with the Amp 300 and gave it some volume. I was surprised...all the claimed power seemed to be there (probably over 200 a channel at 3.6 ohms). I even had a little headroom. I have used this combo for over a year and have really been pleased. I would even go into bass battles with a neighbor, a task that had to be very taxing on this amp. I would be quite disapointed if this amp falls into the same fate as the others here. It will take hundreds of additional dollars to find a similar performer. So for now my fingers are crossed and I am pleased. I will come back and leave a scathing review if it dies. It's been another year and the amp still performs great. I used this amp for a wedding to power an 18" pro Peavy subwoofer. I had the amp bridged mono, at high volumes for hours and the amp performed beautifully.

AudioSource Amp 300 Performs Perfectly!!,
By
This review is from: AudioSource Amp 300 High-Current Stereo Amplifier (150 Watts x 2) (Electronics)
I realize that different people will always have different opinions about products. Especially when it comes to audio equipment.I have owned AudioSource products in the distant past. I wasn't sure what to expect with the Amp 300... but, I found it on sale at Fry's for $149 and couldn't pass it up. I bought two of them. Originally, my intent was to keep one and sell one... but, I ended up using both. In fact, I completely gutted my entertainment system... adding the two AudioSource amps along with a Kenwood Amp and Preamp, in addition to a Yamaha Sound Processor. As you can imagine... the result was spectacular!! The sound pressure levels that are possible are just incredible. The clarity... the tone quality... it's exactly what you want. I found the quality of manufacture to be flawless. Maybe the first one's off the production line has issues... all I can say is that I'm very happy with the equipment and will be looking forward to years of enjoyment.

Great value - we'll see about the reliability,

Very solidly built amplifier that can be used in stereo or bridged mode.Offers speaker-level inputs in addition to the usual line-level. Sounds good to me and others have commended Audiosource for their nice bang-for-the-buck value. I bought this on sale for $129.99. As you can see from other reviews, these have gotten some poor reviews for reliability. I decided to buy a 5-yr replacement warranty for $20. With tax, the whole package was $160 for a powerful versatile amp that sounds good and I have 5-yr peace-of-mind. Would recommend this amp for those on a budget - I believe it would enhance the sound of anything with a mid-to-lower end receiver who wants more driving power for their speakers. |
