I live in NW Connecticut and like to wander on my
bicycle. Getting lost can really be exhausting
and trying. When things start getting a little
dicey I turn the unit on. I'm moving and there's
tree cover and my body is blocking a piece of sky,
so it takes maybie 10 minutes to aquire Satellites.

Time and compass work right away, and I tried
removing a battery for 15 seconds and didn't
loose anything.

As soon as it's locked in I can tell by the
milage/KM display if I'm getting further or
closer to home and of course what the distance
is. The arrow is pointing home, the milage is
updating constantly. This is very helpfull in
getting home when tired. Been using it a week
and very happy. Stated runtime of 6 hrs seems
to be conservative, at least if you only use it
for an hour or 2 at a time. Looks like I'll get
at least 8 maybie 10.

To program a point into it you have to be there,
and it doesn't display latitude/longitude or have
maps or anything, but very easy to master and use.

A good deal.

I got this because my setup uses AAA batteries. This GPS device is good for marking locations, but not navigating. The lack of longitude and latitude limit its capabilities. If you just are a casual hiker, and want it so you can always find your way back to camp or your car, go for it.

1. Takes far too long to lock on.
2. Direction back to car (e.g. In a parking lot) is unreliable.
3. Works poorly in buildings and/or under or around trees.
4. When it does point you to your car, it wants you to scale obstacles to get there
(does not show true track outbound or back inbound)
(impossible to retrace your steps with this thing)
5. Battery life is very short. If you do buy one, carry extra, replacement batteries with you.

I've used it several times and it does work, though not as well as I would like. It's accurate to about 25 feet which is probably good enough. The directional arrow gets you there, but by the long way around. The battery life is relatively short, so I turn it off to not run it down. By the time I have turned it back on, allowed it to lock on the satellites, I've probably found my way.

It's a gadget. It works, albeit slowly, and as I keep using it, I think it will do better as I learn its idiosyncracies.
