This little detail about going all the way to "start" and then release really snagged me up bad and I hope this helps someone.

I can't find anywhere that will install this item because it's not under any of the other companies warranties.

I bought this starter, as it is a nice simple unit to warm up my car on cold winter mornings (I live in Alaska). It performs its function extremely well. FYI I installed it on a 1996 Subaru Legacy.

This unit will work on a Diesel engine vehicle, and will work on a vehicle with a manual transmission, but I highly recommend not installing on a manual transmission vehicle. Also note that if you have a car with a factory security system or a transponder in the key, the installation will be much more complicated, and may require some extra modules to work.

This is a pretty simple unit, without all the bells and whistles of the more elaborate remote starts. It will start and shutdown your car remotely, and turn on the parking lights to let you know the car is running. It can be programed to unlock your existing power doors when you start the car, but I did not use this feature and it MAY require an extra relay. Also note this would leave your car running and unlocked when you start it, so it may not be what you want if you are looking for something to lock/unlock your car remotely as well.

Performance and range have been very good. It easily starts the car 500-1000 feet away, even though building walls. I have noted issues if there is a lot of metal in the building you are in, or the car is parked around a lot of other cars, range may be reduced.

This is NOT a 2-way remote. The only way to verify if your car is running is to visually check to see if the parking lights are on.

Installation was tricky. I should note I have a great deal of experience working on cars and their electrical systems, and install took me about 4 hours due to the many trips back to check if I am really understanding it right.

You're going to want to look up the manual for this online. Just search the model# in Google and with very little digging you can find it. Amazon doesn't allow links so I can't post it.

The manual that comes with it seems to be an older version then the one I found on the internet. When I started looking into how to program the different features of the starter in the book that came in the box, I could not understand what exactly they were saying to do and even worst it was telling me to press buttons on the remote that don't exist and listen for "chirp' sounds from car alarm siren this unit doesn't have. These were certainly generic programming instructions which were to cover this unit and other similar models. The up dated manual I found online was for this model specifically and had much clearer instructions for programming and didn't ask me to press buttons on the fob that weren't there. Also on a completely different note if you really want to know exactly what this unit can do before you buy it, the online manual is your best resource.

Besides the programming part, the instructions that came with it were good technically. The manual is written in a way that assumes a basic understanding of electrical circuits and Automotive wiring in general. All car starter instructions I've ever seen are written in this way. There is also a diagram on the back of the book showing all the wires, their colors and their functions.

This does work with manual transmissions and diesel Engines and has special inputs for both scenarios Ex. clutch kill wire, diesel "wait to start" input wire etc.

Alright so if you're still reading this I'll tell you my thoughts and experience with this starter. 1st it seems the unit itself and the key fob are both good quality.

Great product, but the ordinary guy or girl, could NOT install it. I am looking for someone who has the know how to install it. I may have to spend more money to have a mechanic install it.

You people give a bad rating to a great product because you don't know what you are doing. I only use three or four companies that I trust when doing my installs and this unit is my #1. ive been installing for 16 years and know a thing or two about this stuff. if you buy it, expect to have it installed by a pro and if you attempt it and fail, remember that its because you suck as an installer.

I got this product under the "Like New" from Amazon. The price was fine so I bought it. I received the box and actually the product was NEW! True it is not the original box! but still, looks untouched.
I installed it on my 2002 Camry LE. This car has no immobilizer so the installation is a piece of cake for sure (not absolutely). I decided to use the Toyota After market security system adapter/connection that they use between the ignition switch and the harness. Like that, I didn't modify much the car. I like that!
The installation took me some time. I decided to make it clean, nice, safe and very arranged so I took the middle console, the lower dash and also the glove box out to have enough space to do the job correctly. Then I used some wiring diagrams from Mitchell to set the plan and select what wires I have to connect.
Here I have a note about the APS901C: The wires are huge (even for a signal wires) some of them are extra longs and other are very short! The situation of the plugs on the module could be better positioned! So the whole operation took me like 4 ~ 5 hours (removing a lot of panels, using a lot of electric tape and soldering) When finished I did the Tach programming. It was easy and went very smooth!
I had one problem and it is "The" thing that I don't like about this remote start! The Camry FOB key will not work when the engine is running so I had to use the APS901C to unlock the car when the engine is running! The wire to do that will actually pulse ground before the car is starting (using the remote start) so, this will unlock the car before starting! Not very useful!!!! Sure you can use the other wires to LOCK the car! but the fact that the car will be unlocked even for short time is not acceptable to me.
