The AW770 comes with two main parts: the transmitter and the headphones. About five inches in diameter, the transmitter plugs into a standard wall outlet and hooks into your desired audio source via a single stereo RCA cable. It has one control wheel for tuning and another that serves as master volume. The headphones have their own volume control as well. In our tests, we found that transmission noise was lowest when the transmitter volume was left at maximum. We positioned the transmitter's tuner arbitrarily while setting up and found that the headset's tuner zeroed in on the appropriate frequency with little adjustment.
The transmitter range, rated at 300 feet, seemed surprisingly large, but sound proved enjoyable at distances in excess of 300 feet. However, static and crackle did intrude as distance from the transmitter increased. Some locations required us to "retune" the headphones for clearer reception, but in general, the system worked smoothly once it was set.
The sound from our test CD closely resembled that of clear FM radio: dynamically compressed, slightly hissy at its quietest, and somewhat pronounced in the high frequencies though very listenable. The compact headphones, which can be powered by either standard or rechargeable Ni-Cad AAA batteries (supplied), sounded warm and full in the bass though slightly harsh at the top end, especially at very loud levels. However, this effect was counteracted by the headphones' sealed-enclosure design, which blocked out enough ambient noise so that we never had to crank them too high.
For convenience, comfort, and good overall sound, the Advent AW770 is a steal.

A solid product but could have been better,

These headphones are a decent wirless solution but are a tale of two realities. Reality 1 - When charged and properly tuned, they sound great; rich bass and full mid range with good highs. Their range is excellent - I have listened to music for 3-4 hours about 100 feet from the base. They are adjustable and accomodate different size heads easily. Reality 2 - The challenge of keeping them tuned and charged is not always easily accomplished. The battery setup and charging arrangement could have been done significantly better. Also unless you want to be adjusting the levels alot you need a fixed level signal. Additionally since the frequency reception is quite contingent upon battery strength, if you don't have the time or means to keep the battery charged to certain levels your performance suffers. Since I am a bit of a techno geek being mindful of charging and frequency adjustment is not a big deal, but others (like my wife) will find it a hassle.

I bought the Advent 770 after going to Best Buy and trying on the various models they had there. I found this model to be the most comfortable at the store so I bought them from Amazon. I wear them at work for hours at a time and even though I wear glasses, I am always comfortable. Other headphones I have worn compress my ears too much--but this set does not. (A did not like a Sony wireless headphone for that reason.)There is some adjustment of the controls (to match the frequency of the base and the headphones) needed, but it does not bother me. It is very similar to changing channels on a cordless phone, only it is an analog dial. I am very happy with the product and I am considering buying a second pair for home use.

Simple to install, and sounds fairly good. Range is adequate for my modest tract home & yard (which never takes me more than 200 feet from the base.) I sometimes get a little static when I sit back in the easy chair (metal springs?) I was used to a heavier closed headset, so I was pleased with the lighter weight of this closed headphone. I was mostly interested in isolation from unwanted background noise while watching TV or listening to CDs. The closed earpieces provide just acceptable isolation from outside noise. The built-in nicad recharger is a little slow (needs 12+ hours to lay in a full charge), but assuming you only need them 6 hours a day, it should suffice.
