I've had 2 other tape rewinders in the past, and both of them sounded awful, clacking and whirring away like they were shredding my tapes. Also, the lids often popped up before the rewinding was finished.
This one, though, just has a pleasant, gentle little hum and does what it's supposed to.
It's nice to see that a company actually put some effort into this invaluable but mundane necessity of every VCR owner.
And the price is right too!

For the price this little rewinder is amazingly quiet. I've had it for a year now and it still has never given me any problems. Certain tapes will cause a little noise, but I think it's the tape, not the rewinder. For the most part this one hums very nicely and only pops up when it's either finished or encounters tape problems. I can't imagine paying more for any other model when this one works so well!

The Ambico tape rewinder was a gift to my mom since hers was dying after 15 + years of use. When she received the rewinder, the cover would not close and the tape rewinded the wrong way. I called the company and tried to explain the situation. The phone representative would hardly give me a chance to speak. She never apologized for the product's condition. I asked not to be charged for the shipping of the returned package. Her response was that any other company would expect me to pay for shipping the product back, that they are a small company and could not reimburse me for the shipping. Not only did I receive a product that doesn't work, I paid almost as much to get it shipped to my mother's, and was expected to pay for the shipping of the product back to Ambico. I'm wondering if I do, would they give the same broken down product to someone else? The customer service was horrible. What ever happened to good old fashioned customer service. This thing is going straight in the garbage. At least it won't cost me anymore money to do so.

Like many people, I have lots of VHS tapes left. My rewinder finally conked out, and I was unable to find one in any store in my area. I was told to check the pawn shops, because that was probably the only place to find one now. Yeah, right! So I went to the Internet and found this little gem. It's a great rewinder, is operating just like it should, and as an added bonus, the price is right. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a basic, easy to operate rewinder. Christie K

After a month this rewinder is still working well, though a little noisy. I purchased the same product last year and it lasted only about 10 months before self-destructing. I hope this one lasts longer. If not, I certainly won't buy it again.

I've used this rewinder about 10 times. It is somewhat loud during use, and the noise when it finishes is a bit alarming, but the tapes have been fine. I only use my vcr to record/watch tv shows, so the tapes I'm using have all been used more that 8 times. Great deal, product works as described.

It works fine for what it does which is rewind tapes. It is no frills but what we needed and the price is right. I have had no problems with it so far..

AMBICO VHS Rewinder. Light indicating winder is in use burned out after one tape was rewound. Works well except for that malfunction. Not very good qualify controlI believe.

Purchased two for Children's Hospital to rewind 20-50 movies daily. One of the rewinders stopped working after only 3 days. Amazon was great in sending a replacement before I even had time to return the defective one. I just hope these rewinders last for at least 6 months. Seems like these soon-to-be-obsolete items can't hold up with lots of use.

Ordered 2 tape rewinders at the same time. One already not working right. Sent back under warranty. Never heard from them nor have I receieved it back repaired or a new onw. DO NOT BUY...they do not honor warranty.
