5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for the Money
I just got the Audiovx D1700, & I love it! It works great. I read the other reviews in disbelief! The one I got works exactly like its supposed to. My 3 year old loves it too. The battery lasted through an entire movie & then some, the picture is vivid, the sound quality is great, & it comes w/EVERYTHING needed! Great value, great product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good product with many glitches
I got this player for my two sons so we can travel and entertain them at the same time. They like the player, it works particulary well in a car since it comes with a cable to power the player in the car. The battery is OK but a new battery ... can only be bought from Audiovox so it seems a little expensive.

Picture quality is good also on TV, sound is OK when using...

I got this player for my two sons so we can travel and entertain them at the same time. They like the player, it works particulary well in a car since it comes with a cable to power the player in the car. The battery is OK but a new battery ... can only be bought from Audiovox so it seems a little expensive.

Picture quality is good also on TV, sound is OK when using headphones.

I have had few problems with the player. Some of the problems I have had is the player is very sensitve to scrathes and fingerprints on DVDs, my Matrix DVD plays fine in other players but the Audiovox does not play it because of a few scrathes, it has problems with similar other DVDs in my collection with lots of playtime.

I have had to return the product as it simply cannot play DVDs that last more than an hour and a half, when ever I get to the last 20% of a normal 2 hour movie, it will hang, make pixelation or simply skip parts of the movie, this happens even if I just turned on the player and forwarded to this part of the movie.

Do NOT buy this product. I will be buying the Audiovox D1680 in stead. I researched the net, and the two players are not made by the same ...company for Audiovox, so I expect to have less trouble with the D1680.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!, January 17, 2003

We purchased one of these last month, all it managed to do was destroy the DVDs that were played.

What's even worse is the service we received from Audiovox. They first told us that they wouldn't take the product back because we were playing defective DVDs in it. Then They wanted to send a refurb in exchange for a brand new player. Then we forced the product return.

We still haven't resolved the issue of replacing or paying for the brand spanking new DVDs that the Audiovox player ruined. Audiovox is entirely unwilling to make any effort to resolve this.

Don't buy this player. I would go as far as to say if you are smart you won't buy ANY Audiovox product. You would be taking too much of a risk on reciving a poor quality product AND too much of a risk of reciving poor (and rude) customer service.

1.0 out of 5 stars Audiovox D1700...go back to D1680!, July 22, 2002

Read the luke warm reviews, but took a chance anyway. Returned the unit after only a week. Picture was beautiful, but skipped and pixelized too often. Tried numerous DVDs, but still kept skipping. I then bought the Toshiba 8" unit and returned it after one day (sound was bad...I should also have taken reviews to heart). I now happily own the Audiovox 1680! A little heavier, but it lives up to all expectations.

1.0 out of 5 stars I would not recommend, March 2, 2002

I purchased this product and returned it in 3 days. It would play for 20 minutes and then the DVD would spin out of control and the unit would heat up. This happenned in the car and plugged into the wall. Also, when you adjusted the screen, the picture would fade out and it need to be moved up and down to finally get the screen to come back. I bought the Panasonic LV70 and it is a much better product in my opinion ( light, solid, incredible sound ). The Audiovox also became VERY hot when played for short period of time and the unit was incredibly heavy.

1.0 out of 5 stars 1680 is much better, May 14, 2002
By A Customer

I originally purchased this model instead of the Audiovox 1680 because I prefer the widescreen setup. However, this unit was nothing but trouble. It is flimsy and was unable to play several newly purchased DVDs. Further, the method for recharging the battery was really unintuitive and clumsy. I returned it in favor of the 1680. The 1680 is very solid (and heavy) and despite the fact that it has a more traditional television width ratio, I have been very happy with the unit both as a portable and as a home DVD player.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great, when it worked., July 29, 2002

I bought this toy about 6 months ago. It worked great in the car on road trips, to keep the kids happy. Over the next few months, more and more movies quit working (locked up, skipped, etc.) The same movies still played fine at home on the set-top unit. After reading more reviews, this seems to be a common "feature". Needless to say, I returned it and bought a 9" TV/DVD combo that would run on AC or DC. All of the "defective" movies play without a hitch. This one is no where near as small or as cool but it works so that makes the kids and me happy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this !, June 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Audiovox D1700 Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
What a piece of junk ! Only plays about 1 out of 2 DVD's and even then skips and jumps and freezes erratically. Battery power is good at 3.5 hours, but try buying spare batteries anywhere other than calling Audiovox on the phone, waiting on hold for a while, and getting surly service!

Don't be fooled by the low price. I bought this at another store, and have been consistently disappointed by it. I fly a lot on business, and really liked the idea of having a DVD player for long flights. However, since the Audiovox so seldom is actually able to play my DVDs, I have to carry a lot around with me and constantly watch the few that actually work on it.

I'm about to buy another one, and it won't be Audiovox! This is a complete piece of junk and you should stay away from it at all costs.

2.0 out of 5 stars potluck player, September 26, 2002

Agree with most others. If you got a good one, your fortunate. First one soon skipped and froze badly. Would not play 50% of DVDs and performed poorly on ones that did start. I returned it last week after 9 months ownership and in 7 days a new unit arrived! Good CS dept in NY. So far so good. Looks like a different (better?) lens trolley component in this new one. I also concurr with those who owned the other model - my bud says he has had no problems with that one. Just runs hot. Your 2nd warrantee only lasts 60 days, so I will act quickly if this one starts acting up. A truly amazing machine when it works right.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of JUNK!!!, April 14, 2002
This review is from: Audiovox D1700 Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
As reported above, this player seems to be pretty unreliable. Mine also would not play certain discs. And it would spin out of control on others, AND it froze, skipped and everything else. It seems like Audiovox added all the extras to distract you from the fact that the drive system is a piece of [junk]!! Avoid this player at all costs.
