4.0 out of 5 stars Bought 2 for my 15 yr old grandsons.
For the most part this DvD player is a good buy, my only complaint is that the battery charge doesn't hold long enough to play most movies. So far it only seems to charge for about 1 1/2 hours of actual DvD playing time before it requires recharging.
Fortunatly I bought them for travel and the DvD player is exceptional for that purpose.

3.0 out of 5 stars Audiovox is a good bargain.....
I own a Audiovox 7" from 5yrs ago, my kids love it, take it everywhere, but after all the abuses and throwing around, it finally broke down, still have sound but picture is gone. So it is time for new one, knowing how well Audiovox takes abuses from 2 young kids, we select the Audiovox again, for this great price. When we first receive the player, and we were not happy...

So it is time for new one, knowing how well Audiovox takes abuses from 2 young kids, we select the Audiovox again, for this great price. When we first receive the player, and we were not happy with the 2"by 1" of battery that is hanging at the back of this DVD is just ackward, our old one have the battery flat at the bottom of the DVD.None the less it is great price for the light wt, thinest durable portable around, we will learn to live with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and it works, June 8, 2010
This review is from: Audiovox D1718 7-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
This replaced a much more expensive (Toshiba SD-P1850 Portable DVD Player with 8-Inch Widescreen LCD) that died. The Audiovox has now been in use more than twice as long without failure, and it cost half as much.

What I finally realized is that portable DVD players should be considered disposable. So just buy the cheapest one that meets your needs, use it until it breaks, then buy another.

This Audiovox isn't great in terms of sound or picture quality, but it works. And it has dual headphone jacks so both kids can use it on a plane. The Car Kit option (Audiovox D1718PK 7-Inch Portable DVD Player with Bonus Headphones and Car Kit) includes a padded travel case, two sets of headphones, car adapter, and remote, in addition to the DVD player, battery, charger, and A/V cable. The charger and the remote are super cheapo, the battery won't last more than 2 hours yet takes forever to charge, and the supplied A/V cable is a 3-into-1 adapter--since the input on this DVD player is a single plug--so you will still need to use a standard set of composite cables (red/white/yellow) if you want to watch on your TV.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems ok to me, September 20, 2008

A lot of the reviewers seem to hate this item. I got it last year and so far it seems ok. I'm not an expert on portable DVD players but it does what it's supposed to do. It's probably not the fanciest one but it does the job. I wold recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product and very great value for my money, January 19, 2009

I love my dvd player. This one has a nice sized screen as well. My kids enjoy this one more than their video games. Sometimes we share the player with the rest of the family too. You also know how it can be with traveling even on short trips. Best electronics I ever bought. And the best part is that the service is so wonderful. I have had many other Audiovox units and in the unlikely times when there was a problem, the company went above and beyond the neccessary means to satisfy me. This you don't get from other electronics companies like Sony, Panasonic, or those brands you never heard of before. I like the feeling of being listened too and cared about. That is why I always buy this brand. Love it. And love the fabulous service.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!, July 30, 2008

Don't waste your money on this product! Although it is inexpensive for all the features you get, do you want to be buying another DVD player in 3 months when the warranty runs out like I have to? As soon as our warranty ran out, the screen began to cut out when the unit got warmed up- after say 10 minutes. (Imagine turning off your kids' show after only 10 minutes, imagine the crying they would do!!) After cooling down for hours it would play for another 10 minutes and quit again. I used the a/v out jack to hook it to the TV and it worked- it was a bad connection between the DVD player and the screen.

A local repair shop said no one can repair Audiovox units, they are "disposable" since Audiovox won't sell parts to repair shops. You have to send the unit back, and then Audiovox tells you it will cost $80 to repair the unit. A NEW one barely costs that! Since we can't have it repaired, we took the thing apart and looked at it. It's built with the cheapest components imagineable. The connection on the ribbon cord to the screen was flimsy, no wonder it broke. FYI my repair shop said to invest in a Panasonic unit and I'm going to.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Product, April 4, 2009
This review is from: Audiovox D1718 7-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
I have had this for awhile but it only worked about 4 times. The screen is too dark and unwatchable when it is on full brightness. Even in a dark room. I would avoid this DVD player.

1.0 out of 5 stars AV out doesn't work, November 27, 2008
By

This review is from: Audiovox D1718 7-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
I wanted to use this product for travel and as an additional DVD player for our bedroom. The travel portion worked fine. The problem is that I didn't attempt to hook it up to our bedroom TV until about four months after I bought it. The manual instructs the user to switch the AV in/out switch to "out" when connecting to a TV. Problem is, there is NO AV in/out switch! After doing an internet search, I discovered that the AV jack supposedly detects an external device and switches accordingly. Clearly, the manual should have mentioned this! In any event, it still didn't work. Nothing but static and noise.

In summary, if you want to use it for a standalone DVD player, it's ok, but don't waste your time or money if you need to use it with a TV.

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE OF OCEAN REEF ELECTRONICS, January 8, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Audiovox D1718 7-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
Beware to all who purchase from Ocean Reef Electronics. I purchased a DVD player in November 2011 as a Christmas present for my Mother. After she opened the gift, she found that the battery for the DVD player would not charge. I contacted Ocean Reef Electronics, and they told me they only had a 30 day return policy and could not help me. I was told to go directly to the manufacturer to see if they would do anything.

I feel it is the responsibility of the seller - Ocean Reef Electronics - to either refund or replace the product. They should have to contact the manufacturer, not the buyer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Audiovox Portable DVD Player, June 23, 2009
This review is from: Audiovox D1718 7-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
I am very happy with this player. It was delivered just as described and works great. I was wanting some thing I could listen to music and watch movies in bed on. This fits the bill perfectly. The battery has good lifetime between charges and I have no complaints at all. The company I bought from was great as well. They shipped really fast with no problems.
