Fits the bill and answers the mail!!!,
This review is from: Audiovox D1917ES 9-Inch Portable DVD Package System with Extra Screen (Electronics)
I have purchased Audiovox DVD players before and, to be honest, they have not been problem-free, but nothing bad enough to make me want to throw it in the garbage. I really like the features of this DVD player and works perfectly for my two sons on road trips. It keeps them from driving me crazy and the remote comes in handy so they can both "push the buttons". I recommend the player for price, features and the fact it comes with all the wires, straps and cords you need to hit the road. I didn't give the player 5-stars simply because I don't think Audiovox is the greatest brand ever when it comes to portable DVD players, but they have the best packages for the best price.

Portable DVD Package Useful During Long Trips,

This DVD package system was a Christmas present for my daughter's family for use in the rear of their mini-van on long trips. She reported it worked well with no problems, and was especially happy that I provided a separate cable that allowed them to plug the audio in the car stero, although the unit does have its own speakers.

Santa gave this to my kids and it was wonderful on the first car trip. Very happy with the quality and performance. Upgraded from a 5" video player screen in a bag so much improved quality!

I purchased this item 6 months ago and it no longer works. It was only used about a dozen times. The screen shows a flash of light when it is turned on and then it goes black. This is a terrible product and I hope that I can prevent someone else from making the mistake I did when purchasing it.

We love it!,

We got this for our van and we are loving it! The kids can watch the same movie or two separate movies. Each player has its own color coded remote. I would like to get the adapter to hook it up to the van stereo because it is too quiet for my son with hearing problems.

Terrible Customer Service,

I used this item a total of two times. The first to charge the battery and the second time after the 90 day warranty expired. The unit does not power up when plugged into an outlet. It did the first time that I used it but not the second time. When I called Audiovox they gave me a choice of sending the unit in and paying $90 just to look at it, or buying a new outlet adaptor for the unit, and if the adaptor wasn't the problem they would accept a return and bang me for a 25% restocking fee. I will never buy another Audiovox product again. They do not stand behind their products.

Works well. Simple to use. Simple to set up. No adjustments for second screen which is the downside. Other than that, it's fine.

Great Concept - Bad Execution,

This review is from: Audiovox D1917ES 9-Inch Portable DVD Package System with Extra Screen (Electronics)
The concept of a second screen is great, and we were excited to use it.
Unfortunately for us, the second screen stopped working within the first couple of minutes of use. More generally, however, we were immediately disappointed to see that the units do not have batteries and must be connected to an external power source. That is fine on a car trip, but for plane trips, it can't be used.

Bought this sanity-saver over a year ago, and for someone like me who'd sworn they'd never buy a DVD player for their kids to watch in a vehicle ("I used my imagination and a walkman!" School), this dual-monitor 9-inch player has been a *godsend*. Twice we've been in change-tire land and both times, we were lucky enough to have set up this player for the kids ahead of time; they never even noticed the extra trip time for tire changing. That's a long way from "Our We There Yet".
Knock wood and spit on the ground, we've never had a single problem with it. My 10-year-old is the primary operator; my 7-year-old gets the secondary screen. She used to share that with her brother. Now I'm back online trying to find more monitors as we now have a 4th child, so there'll be 2 for 2. We'll most likely wind up buying a second dual-monitor player instead... as I haven't had much luck finding "expansion" monitors yet. I've been eyeing the Audiovox DT102 "shuttle" as a possibility. My only gripe is that I wish the screens were 12" instead of 9. The DT102 shuttle comes in a 10-inch at least. Wonder if it has a multiple monitors option... We haven't used the remote yet; it stays in the glovebox "just in case". A couple of times I couldn't get the picture to the second monitor, but turned out to be my error: There's a switch on the main unit ("in-out"), and you have to make sure it's on the appropriate setting (I think "in", but can't remember right now). There's also a USB port, and up to 3 headphones can be used with the units without having to buy a separate splicer jack thing for more headphones. Electronics can certainly be an iffy investment, but I do not regret my purchase. It's easy to set up for the kids; never once have they kicked it or otherwise caused (potential or otherwise) harm to it whilst the unit hangs from the back seats, and in a pinch, we've actually used it in a motel room so that the adults could watch the television and the kids a movie. (Happy folks all around.) Oh, and the picture quality for both monitor screens is excellent. Sound... Not the greatest, but since the kids use headphones anyway, who cares? Without headphones, sound is adequate if other people aren't listening to the stereo. There's probably a gadget out there that could rig it through the vehicle's speakers without much difficulty... |
