This is the first portable DVD Player I have owned. However after reading many reviews on other systems I took a chance with the 9 inch Audiovox. So far this unit has proven to be a good buy. With the 9 inch screen the picture quality is excellent especially when watching movies in wide screen mode.

Like most other portable DVD reviews I saw the external speakers will work fine if you are in a quite place, if not you will need earphones to hear the movie or music.

This unit has comes with a 3 point AV Jack conversion so you may use the system as a standard DVD play with a TV or LCD Projector.

I have used the unit with DVDs, DVD-R, music CD's, MP3 disk, and have also dropped some MP3 files onto a USB Tumb drive all work very well.

The only drawback I will note is the short battery life, only plan on two hour maximum. The product details only indicate a 2.5 hour battery. This is not an issue for me because I am almost always near some type of power outlet. This unit comes with a cigarette lighter power adapter and a 110 - 240 electric power adapter.

For the price I would recommend this product..

If you're looking for one of the best portable DVD players with the best PICTURE, look no further. I've shopped around in Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart and other stores and I would probably rate this DVD with the best picture. It's even better than any of the Sony portable players I've seen!

Also, this player has a USB port and a 3-card flash media (SD/MMC/Memory Stick) that a lot of portable players do NOT have.

This unit comes with the mandatory car adapter, AC/DC adapter, RCA composite cable to 1/8 plug (for AV IN/OUT) also. The only thing that is not great about this unit is the battery, which only last 3 hours.

I owned the 9" D1917 (last years model) which is pretty much the same as this model for over a year with no problems. The only reason why I'm buying this model is because I lost the original one.

It's worth owning this one just for the GREAT PICTURE quality!

We purchased this for our son who likes to watch movies on trips. We wanted a 9" that had a quality picture at the lowest price. After searching through reviews this is what we found and have been very happy with the unit. Other reviews indicate the battery life is low but that will likely never be an issue since our van has a power-outlet. The controls are very simple to use which was another huge bonus. And one more comment ... it runs very quiet! Note that most of our experience has been with headphone usage - no problem with volume level.

The first Audiovox D1988 I purchased arrived quickly from Amazon. It was a pleasant looking unit with controls that were accessible and intuitive. The screen was nice and the sound was acceptable. The only problem was the motor (that moves the laser) noise was excessive. It was necessary to turn the volume up just to drown out the motor noise. I have had a few other portable dvd units and the Audiovox was the noisiest. I exchanged the unit and the replacement is about 50% more quiet. I will probably shop around before purchasing my next unit. But, for the price, it is certainly acceptable.

I purchased this DVD player because I was led to believe it was zone free. I already have a portable DVD player, but wanted to be able to play gift DVDs from England. Very disappointed it would not play them. Sent it back, at my expense. Will think twice about ordering anything again. Lovely picture, but useless to me.

LOVED THIS DVD PLAYER SINCE IT TOOK A USB DRIVE AND SD CARDS BUT THIS UNIT LASTED ME EAXCTLY A YEAR. AFTER THE 1st YEAR THE LENS WENT BAD AND WOULDN'T READ ANY DVDS, EVEN TRIED A LENS CLEANER. 3 out of 5 stars. I PAID OVER $100 FOR THIS UNIT AND WAS HOPING IT HAD SOME LONGEVITY. SOUND AND PICTURE WAS GREAT BUT THE LENS MOVM'T WAS LOUD FROM PURCHASE.

This is the 3rd one of these we have bought. And the reason we have had to buy 3 is that our 9 year old son is autistic. and he has given these players alot of abuse. Over the 5 years that we've been using them, they have stood up to him throwing and tossing them. Being dropped, not to mention normal abuse. Our first two we bought still play just fine, but you have to either hold the cover down or some small thing like that. Things that would do nothing but aggrevate an autistic child. So this is the only player we use. It's big screen 3 hour battery life, and its tremendous durability make a must for our home.

I bought this for my 2 year old son. I am amazed at how durable this thing has been since I have owned it (little under a year). I have read previous reviews about this product before I bought it but thought for the price... what the heck. This thing has been dropped more times than I can count. The screen has been touched/pushed by my son numerous times and still no problems. When this one eventually bites the dust I will buy another and hopefully get the same durability out of it that the last one displayed.

I purchased this product as a gift. The first one I got from another vendor did not play DVDs. I sent it back for a refund and thought I would get another brand. I came up empty looking for a player that had the options such as an SD card reader and USB port as well as the large screen size. In fact for this price this was the only one out there that had the features I was looking for. This one arrived and worked right out of the box. Very useful and the gift recipient loves it.

Good unit; I like the ability to used the SD slot with my still camera shots. The picture quality is better then most that I have seen, and we have had two other brand units of DVD player. This unit has with stood a car trip to Florida with toddelers and the beach, not bad for $100 unit. It is hooked up to the TV as a home player now, and is still working great.
