Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Audiovox DV1600 home theater system brings full-bodied sound into your living room at a moderate price. Equipped with a progressive scan DVD player, a powerful 350-watt receiver, four matching satellite speakers, a center channel speaker, and a robust subwoofer, the system enriches your movies and music with thundering audio and a sharp, crisp picture. The satellite speakers, each crafted in an oval shape with cloth grilles, are magnetically shielded to prevent video interference.

The system incorporates many of the premier features of home theater technology, including progressive scan, which furnishes a higher-resolution picture by completely scanning each movie frame (rather than interlacing the frames), and built-in Dolby Digital and Pro Logic II surround decoding. The DV1600 also employs discrete channels for superior audio, while offering such enhancements as movie, music, and matrix modes so listeners can choose just the right audio settings for their medium of choice. Additional DVD functions include multi-angle playback, zoom, slow motion forward and reverse, chapter and title skip, secondary audio (when available), programmable memory, and repeat playback. Viewers can also choose between such video modes as 4:3 pan scan, 4:3 letterbox, and 16:9 widescreen, depending on the dimensions of the TV and their viewing preferences.

Other features include a digital AM/FM tuner with 20 presets, a fluorescent display, and complete bass and treble controls. The system connects to other components via the component video output (for the highest resolution), composite input and output, S-video output, and digital audio output. Setup is quick and easy thanks to the easy-to-understand instructions. The system also comes with a multi-brand AV remote and carries a 90-day warranty.

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely worthless, April 23, 2005

This review is from: Audiovox DV1600 350-Watt Progressive Scan DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I bought this sytem solely for the price. I think I bought it for about $250 or so 5-6 months ago. The unit began having problems immediately. Don't get me wrong, the sound is really quite good. But the DVD functionality is terrible. Response from button/remote input is extremely poor. The discs get hung up all the time in some kind of spinning limbo, where the system is completely unresponsive - sometimes requiring me to turn the systems on/off several times and attempting eject the disc. All my movies skip constantly! Brand new, untouched, out of the box discs, skip and lock-up for no reason. And then, for no reason at all, the remote stops working. Menu, FF, RW, Play - none of them work - and the issue is not related to batteries or anything. It is a completely frustrating experience just to sit down and try to watch a movie all the way through. I just want to sit down, and relax. But it is always a hassle do get the discs to play, or to pause and restart the movie, or just watch scenes get completely stalled and chunked up. I am actually more relaxed before I try to sit down and watch a movie.

So, when the system works, it works fine. But those times are few and far between. And again, this issues didn't arise after increased usage. They have basically been there since the beginning. Avoid this system like the plague!
