High quality and great features.,

This review is from: Audiovox GMRS7000CH 7-Mile 15-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Electronics)
I recently picked up a pair of these radios after having used the FRS service for a few years. The difference is astounding! These are solidly built units with a removable antenna, wall charger and Ni-MH battery pack (like a camcorder), and a large informative LCD screen. I too have contacted Audiovox about accessories like an earbud/mic (any brand should work, I just wanted to see what they had available) and a desktop charger (the units have bottom external contacts to facilitate this), but I haven't gotten a response so far. There is one thing to keep in mind when you are considering the purchase of a GMRS radio: YOU MUST PURCHASE A ...FCC GMRS RADIO LICENSE (valid for 5 years) BEFORE YOU CAN OPERATE ANY GMRS RADIO!... Not many people realize this and most retailers don't make the point very clear.

Excellent Features But Shipped Defective Unit,
By A Customer
This review is from: Audiovox GMRS7000CH 7-Mile 15-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Electronics)
I purchased two of these GMRS units. Outstanding features, longest outreach on the market for type (7 miles max.) One of the two units shipped with a defective PTT Switch (talk button). By the time I discovered it, 30 warranity period had expired. The two units now set in a draw unused. I would not purchase again because of the short warranity period and feature set being overly complex for everday casual use in my opinion.

No ear bud or mic,

The radio seems to be fine. Called Audiovox to determine source of ear bud/mike. A rather surley telephone operator told me there were none available, couldn't tell me if anyone else had a compatable one and didn't know if Audiovox ever planned to have one!

My experience....one of first two I was shipped was defective, apparent badly designed/cheap switch....replacement one also defective....in my opinion, it's junk, don't buy it; what's the point of 7-miles if it keeps breaking?

Range is havily overquoted!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Audiovox GMRS7000CH 7-Mile 15-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Electronics)
GMRS7000 is a good two way radio, but the range is havily overquoted. The actual range is about 2 miles in open field, less in town or buildings. As all two way radios, forests reduce drastically the range (less than a mile!).Another issue, is the battery meter which can show you 100% of battery available but, when you try to transmit, the meeter go to 0% and the display goes off. Of course you're not able to transmit anything. So you have to carefully count the hours wou've used the radio to have a rough idea of the available battery. Also you don't have any indication in the instruction book of how long to charge the accumulators. Beaside this, it's a good product. As I haven't owned other long-range two way radios (just a Motorola 0.5W) I don't know if other have the same problems.

GREAT PRODUCT!!! I work at a church that has Very thick walls because it was a Fall-out shelter. All of the radios ive tried have had trouble getting throught. When I got these there was no problem at all getting through. Also when we went camping part of our family was on the otherside of a mountian about 4 miles away and the reception was GREAT. A must have!!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Audiovox GMRS7000CH 7-Mile 15-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Electronics)
We ordered the unit as a gift before Christmas. The unit was opened in mid January and won't transmit. It appears to be a defect in the PTT switch or mike. The short warranty might as well not exist. Still trying to get some help. I own three other FRS radios made by a different leading manufacturer which in three years have never had a problem.

I have read a lot of people having trouble with the ptt button on this radio. My friend had the the button break on his, and I had the same thing happen to mine. I would suggest they redesign this part. They want over $25 to repair this defect. I wouldn't buy any of their products.
