Good Product, be mindful of connection,

This is a great choice if you're a new Sirius subscriber. The radio with a big screen/LCD type look is a waste of money if you live up north where the cold weather can cause the screen to freeze. The "pause" capability is exactly like a DVR/Tivo in that you can take a call or whatever and not lose a joke, part of a song, etc. My only point of caution is your connection type. I'm using an AUX input and have some trouble with static. Sirius is providing great customer service though by sending me a direct FM adapter that should alleviate the problem.

This other reviewer has no idea what he is talking about,

This item was released WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY before the XM sirius merger. Meaning this product has nothing to do with any agreements. Not only did the other reviewer put no input on the device itself, but Basically only stated he wanted it cheaper... A.K.A., something for nothing. The radio is still the best availible, comes with the ability to rewind and pause your current channel, much like Tivo... just for the radio. You can store your favorite sports teams so you can be updated with scores, as well as game times. Considering the price, and the features it has, this is still, in my opinion, the best radio that is out there. The other reviewer is unfair, and obviously just wanted to get something for almost nothing and expect amazing things. Also The merger has nothing to do with the actual product, very biast opinion.

Equipment SUCKS!,
By J.A. "shoebox" (AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Audiovox Sirius ST5TK1R Starmate Plug and Play with Vehicle Kit (Electronics)
I have had Sirius since 2005. I love Sirius radio, the only issue I have with it is the equipment!I have gone through 4 head units in 5 years. It is very obvious this stuff is built to fall apart. The provided antennas have had to be replaced a few times. the connectors become lose causing the "no antenna detected" nightmare. The boom box I also bought in less than 6 months had power cord issues. I've had to take head units apart to solder parts myself just to get a few more miles out of them before buying new ones. They give you the "luxury" of being able to move the head unit from one car to another or to the house or boom box, but over time pulling and pushing the head unit from docking stations begins to break it down. With all the money I spent on equipment replacement, I was probably better off from the start just buying 2 head units with 2 subscriptions and never touching the dam things. My starmate 5 just took a crap.it is just about a little over a year old and now I'm off to buy yet another head unit. I recommend Sirius to everyone, but Sirius, your equipment is junk. You should be ashamed to put your name on this crap. My one star review is for this pile of garbage equipment and all other radio equipment Sirius sells. By all means enjoy Sirius, but handle the equipment like a new born baby

Starmate 5, 1 year, three replacement radios.,
This review is from: Audiovox Sirius ST5TK1R Starmate Plug and Play with Vehicle Kit (Electronics)
I have been a subscriber to Sirius for one year. I am now on my fourth Starmate 5 radio. When the original radio breaks, if it is still under warranty, you are issued a refurbished unit. When the refurbished unit breaks, you are issued another refurbished unit. Each time, Sirius requires that you pay to ship them back the broken unit, so that they can refurbish it, and you receive a refurbished one in return. In some cases, the Sirius Customer Care rep will try to charge you a new activation fee unless you threaten to unsubscribe. In conclusion, I would not select the Starmate 5 as a radio if you choose to subscribe to Sirius.

Equipment sucks - 2,

I'm with the guy writing 'equipment sucks - review 1'.It's nice to see these happy customers in their first week, all nested in. I never planned on spending this much time repurchasing and reinstalling parts and pieces. And i don't make time to do it. I'm paying the subsciption fees and only about half the time do i have a working unit. Today, here i go again, buying another new piece to try to get it back working. It's been all summer since i've gotten to listen to it. Don't look at Happy Fun Ball and Don't Look at XM equipment. Both are a wallet drain.

Only had it a few weeks and it works well. Buttons are a little small though for me. Display of channel and music is clear.

Only worked less then 1 year - Poor Quality,
This review is from: Audiovox Sirius ST5TK1R Starmate Plug and Play with Vehicle Kit (Electronics)
Bought this in December 2010, and it worked till around summer of 2011. After a while, every button you pushed programed a station no matter what you were trying to do. And it would beep, beep, beep every time. Even just driving it would change stations, store it and beep. Then the buttons would not work, you push #1 and it would read #7 etc. So there was no way to get to stations with any buttons. Poor quality buttons, and for only working less then 1 year is a piece of crap. I would never buy one like this again if you want it to last.

I bought this radio twice. Once for my girlfriend's car and then again after it was stolen out of her car. It is an inexpensive radio with some good features. Don't leave it in plain sight in an unlocked car. She loves the ability to flag a song or artist so that if it is on any other station, it will beep to let her know what she likes is plying on another channel. What is missing, though, is a 'back' button... to return to a previous station.

Sirius Sat received works great!! The remote control is very convenient and makes it easier than trying to see the receiver while traveling. Also, the passengers in the back can control the receiver without the driver having to make the changes. Very impressed with the flexibility of the receiver and plan to install additional docks in home and other autos to allow me to move the receiver. The display is easy to see, which was a major concern. Overall, very, very pleased with the receiver!

One thing missing...,

Actually two things, but one cannot be helped. When SAT Radio first started the little receivers had powerful FM Transmitters to move the signal from the little SAT receiver to your FM car radio or home radio. I have an older on that transmits it's signal all over my house. The FCC required the units be powered down. What's missing is a BACK button. This radio has S-SEEK. As you listen to music or other programming you are allowed to set FAVORITES and any time that artist shows up on the SAT you are alerted. It has 30 pre-sets and is easy to operate even while driving. It is a little frustrating to have "browsed" and found something interesting, get an S-SEEK alert, leave your channel to listen you a favorite and then not be able to get right back to it. A BACK button would be very handy. Since installing it the receiver has worked fine, and has had no problems. I recommend it and can say that in my experience with 4 different receivers that newer is not necessarily better. ESPECIALLY if you are new to the service go for price. DO get one that has FM OUT so you can inject the now much weaker signal directly into your antenna line and also S-SEEK. It's very hand on trips. Sometime on 4 or 5 hour drives I can go from one S-SEEK alert to another without ever having to search for something to listen to. |
