Now you can watch TV or listen to the radio in the comfort of a kitchen, bedroom, shed, or any place unfriendly to a television's traditionally bulky frame. The compact VE-640 from Audiovox offers a 6.4-inch, drop-down LCD, a remote control, a digital alarm clock, and stereo sound. This unique set also offers a hands-free telephone, so you can chat or solicit a friend's advice via speakerphone while you're working in the garage. The set can be flush-mounted, and it comes with all necessary mounting accessories.
An audio/video input lets you plug in a VCR, DVD player, or camcorder when desired. The VE-640's profile is a mere two inches thick when closed, and its screen resolution is 960 x 234. In addition to normal broadcast reception of VHF and UHF channels, the unit's 125-channel tuner is capable of receiving many unscrambled cable-TV channels without the use of a converter box (cable service required).

Display stops working in less than 12 months,

Purchased in May of 2003, diplay stopped working within 6 months. Warranty only 90 days for parts and labor, not typical for TV's. Retailer will not repair. To repair, Audiovox requires repair payment $135.00, almost half of a on-sale replacement. Better to purchase a traditional TV that hangs from under the counter.

We bought this so we could have a TV in our kitchen. Excellent picture, Excellent sound. Installation was a breeze, accurate template for drilling holes for supports on bottom of cabinet. (running the wiring behind the wall to hook up the TV and speakerphone was a bit more challenging). Integration of radio/tv/speakerphone is excellent. A solid buy.

So my wife wanted an undercabinet television to watch while she did her charting on the computer. Her desk doesn't have much space... I looked around, and the best I could find were the units by Audiovox. There was the 500, the 550, the 640, and the 1040 (with DVD). We really wanted the DVD, but the price was outrageous, and it was too big to fit under our cabinet. The VE-640 was about the right size! Although, with our 11 1/2" cabinet, it sticks out 1". You'll need 12 1/2" undercabinet clearance (with the connecting wires on back) to have it fit flush.We don't have cable, so we use an antenna. We get good UHF reception, but only a couple of VHF channels come in very good. The sound is a bit tinny, but adequate for tv viewing. I'm going to hook up a dvd player (it has RCA inputs) so my wife can watch her music videos. A few quirks... the sound doesn't always come on with the tv, until after I cycle through various modes (telephone, fm/am, etc.) I hope this unit continues to work for us... there really isn't a comparible product at this time. I've heard that the VE-640 will be discontinued, and a VE-700 will replace it... but I didn't want to wait for a rumor...
