4.0 out of 5 stars Works fine for me, March 23, 2009
This review is from: Audiovox XMCK10AP Xpress Receiver & Car Kit (Electronics)
I would have to disagree with the previous reviewer. I own this radio and it works great for me. I've been an XM customer for about 5 years now (I got this one as a second receiver), and I have found that when using the modulator, it is necessary to find a station that has absolutely no bleed through, as it will cause disruption in the sound quality. This receiver has pretty decent features and allows you 3 categories for your favorites (which is good if you listen to several genres of music, in addition to sports, news, talk, etc., as I do), in addition to allowing customization of the viewing screen. A good receiver to get if you are trying satellite radio for the first tiem and don't want to spend a great deal of money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great music. Needs improvement., January 25, 2009
We go on road trips a lot and I wanted satellite radio for those parts of the country where radio reception is sparse. This works very well for that purpose. I love the fact that we now can listen to dedicated children's programming like Radio Disney. I only have a few problems with this unit.

I wish there weren't so many gosh darned wires. I understand that if I followed instructions for fully installing the unit, I would not see all the wires, but I am just not that savvy and my husband forbade me to try. I would like it to have a built-in wireless FM modulator, which would help with the wire clutter.

The dash mount came with something to prepare the dash with and a mounting tape square. It lasted longer on the dash than I ever hoped for; but in the summer heat, when the car can get over 120 degrees, the adhesive eventually came unglued and the mount fell off. I was impressed that the adhesive did not leave a residue.

XM Radio merged with Sirius and now my radio has this annoying beep every so often. It seems completely random, at which point the screen will display the Sirius website address. It is sooo annoying. If anyone knows how to get this to stop, I'll be forever grateful. Phooey on that Sirius for messing up my pleasant radio listening days.

I find the controls less than completely intuitive. I can get the basics, like tuning to the proper channels and setting each numbered button to a favorite station. The fact that there are 3 preset arrangements of channels just makes it harder for less tech savvy people. If I flipped it from Preset A to Preset B, I think my husband would have a fit. Other features, I haven't explored, because it just looks too complicated.

I am happy with the Xpress for the variety of music I can now receive anywhere we go. If they could make it with a wireless FM modulator, no annoying beeps, a better dash mount and more intuitive controls, I could be in heaven.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Radio Stinks!!!, September 23, 2009
By
I purchased this radio for my wife's car. I have the RoadieXT in my vehicle and she wanted a satellite radio in her's too. The signal on the FM modulator was very weak, got lots of interference and would cut out on every channel we tried (and we tried a lot!). To make matters worse, the radio would constantly lose the XM satellite signal. It was so annoying that we just turned the thing off.

It then tried my Roadie in her car to see if it was the vehicle or the installation, using the same wires as the Xpress (the RoadieXT and Xpress use the same power and antenna wires). The Roadie worked perfect. I then tried the Xpress in my car, which has an FM antenna cutoff to help eliminate interference. The FM modulator worked better, but still cut out way too often. The radio kept losing the satellite signal, which almost never happens with my Roadie. Between the two problems, I hardly (if ever) made it through a single song without interruption.

I returned the unit and would recommend NOT purchasing this product!
