Real Rock Music,
By
This review is from: Audit in Progress (Audio CD)
Pure masterpiece. Evolved from the colon banging Automatic Midnight, and more in-your-face than the experimental Suicide invoice, Audit in Progress' guitar swashbuckling and machine gun drumming will rock you from your crypt after you've died from being blown away from the awesomeness that is Hot Snakes. Reis' rad riffs will slap you like you stole something, while Mario's drum grooves attack your ears like chinese water torture causing your ears to orgasm... TWICE! The low end from Wood's bass sustains the high down-stroke-per minute pulse while shaking the meat of your bones. Froberg's signature howl blasts and and soars melodically leaving you hoarse trying to replicate his awesome vocals while driving your '93 Corolla to the closest gas station to pick up some smokes. In conclusion, if you want to listen to music that's easy and light, don't come here! Because the Hot Snakes will rock you harder than a rickety roller coaster!

Hot Snakes + a dash of pop = a fine album,
By
This review is from: Audit in Progress (Audio CD)
This new release from San Diego's Hot Snakes is probably their finest to date. Each album shows their growth and this one may be their most mature and complete album yet. I never thought i'd say it, but this release adds an almost new element, a dash of pop. Now, dont be scared away by this: it's a good thing. The songs are strong as ever, and if anything the structure of the songs has improved and the music is becoming increasingly tight. Sickening tight. The radio will never be ready for the Hot Snakes, and maybe that's the point. Kreative Kontrol indeed. 4 1/2 stars.

Hot Snakes first two releases ("Automatic Midnight" & "Suicide Voice") simply, but adequately, put are `bad *** records'. Both I would rate five stars with the amazon.com system, but I've immediately digressed. This review is for their new release "Audit In Progress".
Much like "Automatic Midnight" starting off with "If Credit's What Matters...", "Audit In Progress" starts off with the pulsating, extremely loud "Braintrust". With the album introductory track, you get the realization that you're going to be hearing more of the same from these guys, which in this case isn't necessarily a bad thing. While the overall feel is the same, there are some noticeable differences, miniscule, but apparent. For example: I feel this album has a bit more of a faster pace than both their previous releases. Add to that that more than half the tracks on this album do not exceed three minutes, it radiates a more Sultans or Rocket From The Crypt (sans the horns) feel rather than Hot Snakes. Overall though, I recommend it if you enjoyed Hot Snakes first two releases. My pick for best of show without needing the slightest consideration is "Kreative Kontrol"; it's got the pounding drums and sublime guitar work we HS fans are accustomed to hearing. And its basic lyrical context makes it a staple song to show to all your buddies diluting in the mainstream the real reason why most indie bands remain independent. Other stand out tracks includes "Hi-Lites", "Audit In Progress", "Hatchet Job", "Retrofit", "Braintrust", and "Plenty For All". Added Note: I would rate this album a half point lower than Hot Snakes previous two releases simply because the standout tracks on the album (apart from the amazing "Kreative Kontrol") are not as good as those on their previous albums, but nevertheless are enjoyable.

Can't. Stop. Listening.,

I've been listening to this CD at least once a day for the last 11 months, and have not tired of it. Something about them tells me they are insane live; they haven't been out touring since I started listening.
While the entire album is tight, the first five tracks are the brightest. Fast & full of energy. I suck at this review-writing shiite. Just go get the CD, damnit.

Mr John Reis, Mr Rick Froberg, Mr Gar Wood, Mr Ruby Mars,
This review is from: Audit in Progress (Audio CD)
This Record kicks. Auto Midnight ruled. Suicide Invoice ruled even better. Audit in Progress is an awesome combo of the two.
It starts out bumping and rocking. Think About Carbs is angry and awesome, cleaver message as well. Buy This Record Now. It rocks more than a lot of bands out there calling themselves "rock". My only complaint is that I wish Mr Reis was doing some more background vocals, But it's still a musical masterpiece. These younger bands out today could learn a thing or two from the Snakes.

Audit in Progress is a great cd it really is but for me when I bought this cd I actually thought it sucked and was pissed that I had purchased it. Automatic Midnight is one of the best cds of all time, every track on that cd is kill. I heard that and immediately ran out to the store in search of it only to find that Audit was the only one they had. I thought Hot Snakes would be Hot Snakes and awesome all around but oh was I wrong. As good as this cd is it's not their best..I didn't like it til I had listened to it through a few times and it finally grew on me. The lyrics don't seem real solid to me, kinda just like they threw em together last minute. The music itself though is top notch. The first half of the cd is great..in fact that's about all I usually listen to. So this one- well if you're a fan already then go for it. If not then you better set this one back on the shelf and grab AM. You won't regret it.

Froberg has done it again.,

First of all. How much acid is Rick Froberg taking? The art on this cd is just ridiculous, but oh so nice. A cat sitting on a pirates lap giving a thumbs up is weird enough, but to have a soccer ball with a face? I saw the cover to this and laughed, thinking that maybe that was it, and thinking to myself I was pleased but a little dissapointed with the art. The inside, however, calmed my fears. 'Tis some nice art all around.
The record. I popped it in right when I cracked the wrapping off, and parked my car at a busy store. The volume went up to a screeching level. BOOM. This record kicks out all the stops right away with Braintrust and High Lites. Retrofit, however, takes things up a notch further and grates your skull. How disturbingly rock. I had old people looking to my car as if it was on fire, so I shut my eyes and put on a smile. Little kids started crying. It was really a site to behold. Kreativ Kontrol kicks in, and more little kids strt crying. I start to make faces at them in tune with the music, which only freaks them out more, so I smile and stick my tongue out at them. This album is pretty good, and I'm sure i'll dig it even more once I listen to it a few more times. The only "weak" song on this album, if you can call it that, is lovebirds. And it aint even that bad at'all. Plenty for all, the albums closer, is really damn good. REALLY damn good, and it makes me hope these guys chuck out one more album before their inevitable demise. Who the hell makes a song called Think About Carbs, and gets away with it? HOT SNAKES, THAT'S WHO. Buy it.

This cd is the HOT SNAKES. LIVE is where these guys have it down. There are hints to JEHU but it is the HOT SNAKES. AT first I wanted a JEHU REUNION because I really miss the power but now I have accepted that this is the past. Live everything comes together. I burned about 500 calories watching these guys and all I did was tap my feet. Go see them and hope for a longer tour. HEY GAR WOOD have JOHN REIS release some tanner BSIDES. Thanks for the fun...

This is an ace album, as are the other 2 releases by these fine gents. The Peel Sessions album is now out too! Woo hoo! If you liked Drive Like Jehu:
1. You should already know about this band 2. You will enjoy their albums! Whats up with the guy complaining about the artwork? Every album cover is pure genius, like spilled ink.

This album is an outstanding slice of music. Heard Kreative Kontrol on internet radio and had to get the album. I'm going to buy the previous releases as well. If you like these guys I'd also say try Refused's The Shape of Punk to Come.
