Editorial Reviews

Review

"An excellent collection of cases that will add value to undergraduate and graduate education." — Alvin A. Arens, Michigan State University

"I think this case book would serve well as either an important supplement in an introductory auditing course or as a stand-alone book in a special topic module of an advanced auditing course. It brings real-world grittiness into an academic course. The experience of working through these cases is comparable to that of an internship. The cases are interesting to read and challenging. By conscientiously completing the cases, students will see issues that are not `cut and dry' and will have to use their own judgment and defend it." — John E. Delaney, Southwestern University

"I liked the Brent Dorsey case as a quick read. I would use the Phar-Mor and Flash Technologies cases as a semester-long project .... I would definitely use these cases. The case notes are consistently good and among the best that I have seen." — James J. Carroll, Georgian Court College

"The Brent Dorsey case has the appeal of a real-life situation, which is helpful to students about to enter the professional world. Students will relate to this case very well. The Phar-Mor case has ethical components illustrating an alleged fraud very -nicely. Fraud is an exciting topic in auditing that will capture the interest of students. The internal control implications of the Phar-Mor case will reinforce the internal control theory learned in other parts of the course." — John E. Delaney, Southwestern University

"The Runners Shop is a nice case to practice finding weaknesses in work papers. I particularly like the motivation as a part of a litigation support service .... Flash Technologies is my favorite of the cases . . . very good risk analysis . . . another capstone case that I would assign after students have already done some simpler risk analysis cases .... They would learn much from this one." — Jewell W Habegger, Susquehanna University

From the Back Cover

Unlike other available auditing case books, this volume focuses on the development of higher-order skills—such as critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal relations—and provides learners with hands-on exposure to realistic cases involving all aspects of an audit process. The book offers a collection of 36 auditing cases that address most major activities performed during the conduct of an audit—from client acceptance to issuance of an audit report. Cases involving actual frauds and real companies peak readers' interest and motivation for auditing and helps them develop an awareness of fraud reality. Cases involving the performance of audit procedures and examination of audit evidence give readers the opportunity to obtain “hands-on” experience with tasks performed by auditors—deepening their understanding of auditing. Cases involving information technology, assurance services, and other value-added opportunities expose readers to the changing environment of auditing and the new opportunities available. For accounting professionals thinking about taking the CPA exam, clients hiring accounting firms to conduct an internal audit, and new hires in the field of accounting. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, January 30, 2004
By
Don Terrillon (North VAncouver, British Columbia Canada) - See all my reviews
This is a book of auditing case studies without solutions to the cases, for someone purchasing the text for their own use it was impossible to get the solutions from the publisher they refused my request. Do not purchase this text if you are using it for self study.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Learning Tool, February 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Readings center around good examples for auditors in training to learn from and the questions force thought above and beyond what is presented in the case. Great for open discussion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just another book for grad school, October 2, 2010
Not much to say here...I needed to buy this book for grad school. It was $20-$30 cheaper on Amazon than at the bookstore.
