A very good dictionary.,

This review is from: Auditor's Dictionary: Terms, Concepts, Processes, and Regulations (IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors) Series) (Hardcover)
I found this dictionary very helpful in elucidating auditing terminology, and explaining the background to audit concepts. Complex ideas are often distilled into a few, clear paragraphs. Perhaps an additional diskette would have been useful to aid key word searches? But overall this is a very good guide to the language of audit. Recommend.

Valuable tool.,

This review is from: Auditor's Dictionary: Terms, Concepts, Processes, and Regulations (IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors) Series) (Hardcover)
As an auditor, I found this dictionary to be a valuable tool: at last, in one volume, there is a comprehensive guide to auditing terminology. It is a relief to no longer have to plod through accounting dictionaries to find auditing terms. Guidance for further reading within the auditing literature is another plus.

This book is not worth is price. It gives you general definations you can look up on any general search engine. However, the special action verbs and or complex auditing procedures are not listed. Its for a high school student taking accounting for the first time.

More comprehensive than I expected,

This dictionary is an unusual hybrid - part list of definitions, part collection of explanatory mini-essays on a range of auditing topics. At times very scholarly in tone, it nonetheless imparts the basic definitions of most of the words auditors are likely to encounter. Some heavyweight auditing academics have endorsed this book, and they're not wrong. But one aspect of the dictionary that I personally found superfluous was the inclusion of the names of individuals and publications - it would have been better, in my view, to stick to pure terminology definitions. That quibble aside, this is an excellent dictionary that has a useful bibliography to guide to further information.
