Dream Awake To Passionate Sounds.... Audra can only do it.,
By Will Sibick (Scranton, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Audra (Audio CD)
Ever listen to an album where every song evoked an image or a story that unfolds before your very eyes. THIS IS IT! Passionate lyrics and velvet sound pours from the speakers to entwine your imagination with Dark tales and images... Fact or Fiction??? Only Bret or Bart could personally tell you where they had come from. You may even be suprised to see that you have a different take on the whole album as well. Rich vocals similar to that of Peter Murphy. You can listen to this album a million times and always find something new. The only thing left is to see it live. Don't pass this up! There isn't a dull moment on this Disk. Personal Favorites: Cupid, In Hollywood Tonight, The Dancing Images, & Your So Pretty. Honestly I love the Whole Album and it never leaves my CD Player.

Not Goth???,
By Edward Trujillo (Linthicum,MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Audra (Audio CD)
First off, Get the idea out of your heads that this band is goth. There are too many elements in this band to say this. Sure they are on the Projekt label but they are on a thin line between Goth and darkwave. The material on this album has not got your typical goth anthems. These songs are real. With vocal fusings of Peter Murphy and David Bowie, Bret Helm paints a dark landscape of loss and sorrow so vivid you can almost feel his pain. From the upbeat innuendo of "In All Our Androgyny" to the dark obssessive telling of "You're So Pretty." Make no mistake, Audra are opening new doors in this genre.

this album is a lyrical and dark exploration in the minds of the two brothers that are audra. it is a wonderful first album that journeys past the realm of goth into that twilight made of fears, obessesions, and madness. a wonderful edition to anyone's collection.

Audra are one of the most beautiful goth bands,

Audra are one of the best bands I've heard in a long time! Bret Helm has one the most beautiful male voices I've ever heard! Anyone who likes goth music has to get this album! "You're So Pretty" is just a beautiful song. Other good songs on the album are "In All Our Androgyny", "Spiked With Black And Rum", "What Your Eyes Had Seen", and "In Hollywood Tonight", which was written for Rozz Williams of Christian Death. I've also seen them live four times and they rock, so if you ever get the chance to see them live, GO! You won't be sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn good Club Music,

I am so impressed by this CD. The second CD on the Projekt label that you can play after 11 and not worry about sending folks to sleep :). Sounds a lot like old Peter Murphy (and I don't mean that in a rip off way, just the vocals and bass line feel like something Peter Murphy would have done). Wonderful to listen to! If you want to hear GOOD new gothic music, this is the CD to pick up!

I like most of the album but Projekt is not the correct label for them. I volunteer now and then for the online subsidiary of 4AD now.

I love this cd. I know he sounds like Peter Murphy, but I think the music is even more catchy.

Good, But Not Original,
By A Customer
This review is from: Audra (Audio CD)
Gothic done well, but not terribly original. The vocals are excellent and sound exactly like Peter Murphy...hopefully not on purpose. The music is similar (sometimes) to Bauhaus. If I heard this CD without knowing who it was, I would think it was Bauhaus re-united in 2000. I also think it wears out it's welcome in length. If you want gothic music that's not cheesy, pick it up. Just don't expect to hear anything new!

Disappointed with this CD, sorry.....,
By Jay Senese (Los Angeles, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Audra (Audio CD)
I listened to the CD all the way through and will soon post it for sale as a used item at Amazon.com, so watch for it there. I was disappointed with the sameness of the sound and the blandness of the production. Where the music could have reached out and grabbed me it seemed to simply sit there lifeless. I found myself thumbing through a magazine as I kept losing patience waiting for something exciting to happen. I have a great many goth and goth-ish CDs in my collection but this one will not be one of them, sorry. |
