Audrey Rocks!,
This review is from: Audrey, Wait! (Hardcover)
Audrey's tired of dealing with her boyfriend's egocentric attitude. So she breaks up with him. Should be the end of it, but it's not. Because Evan writes a song about the break-up and records it with his band, and "Audrey, Wait!" skyrockets up the charts. As the song grows more popular, so does Audrey. All Audrey wants is to be normal (and maybe go on a date with super cute James), but when the paparazzi are stalking you and people you've never met are following your every move on the internet (and hating you), being normal isn't easy.
I really loved this book. It's just as much as fun as the cover. Even though the premise is extremely unlikely, Benway handles it in an extremly believable way, with three-dimensional characters. But the best thing about this book is Audrey, who has become one of my favorite narrating characters. She is a completely realistic teen whose sarcastic wit will keep you laughing and turning the pages, wanting to know what'll happen next in her turned-upside-down world. Complete fun and highly entertaining, "Audrey, Wait!" should definitely be a popular read for the spring and summer.

The Compulsive Reader's Reviews,
By
This review is from: Audrey, Wait! (Hardcover)
When Audrey made the decision to dump Evan, she never imagined that millions of people would soon know about it. But then Audrey, Wait!, the song Evan wrote about the break-up, is suddenly leaping up the charts, and making Evan's band wildly popular virtually overnight, Audrey has more attention than she can handle. Mobbed by reporters, fans, and fake friends, she can barely attend school, much less move on with her love life and start dating again. All anyone knows is what the paparazzi report. Now it's time for Audrey to take matters into her own hands.
Audrey's story is laugh out loud funny and chocked full of her crazy, fun filled escapades. Audrey herself has a sardonically appealing wit about her that makes her an instant hit, and is honest, confident, and yet still quite human. Her thoughts and vivid wording are what make that connection between the protagonist and reader. Though the book is lengthy, the plot moves at a brisk pace, and each chapter is preceded by sing lyrics from a wide variety of artists throughout the ages. This is a hilarious, wise, and immensely inviting read that anyone would be willing to rock out to. Visit http://thecompulsivereader.blogspot.com/ for more reviews and contests!

Audrey Wait! is a fun, well written and really enjoyable novel,
This review is from: Audrey, Wait! (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the BEST book I have read in what seems like forever. I devoured almost all of it in about 3 hours and actually woke up in the middle of the night and seriously contemplated finishing it off (sadly, I fell back asleep while still considering the idea).
Audrey, Wait! is all about how 16 year old Audrey breaks up with her wannabe rockstar boyfriend and he writes a song about their break up (called Audrey, Wait! nache) which becomes hugely successful and thrusts all-I-wanna-be-is-a-normal-16-year-old Audrey into a life of rock stars and paparazzi. The author, Robin Benway, does incredible things with dialogue which makes the writer in me beyond jealous. I laughed and giggled so many times while reading this book and really, it was the best time I've had reading in a really long time. Thank you Robin Benway! Audrey, Wait! is actually a young adult book, but don't let that stop you from picking it up if you're an adult because it is a seriously fun and enjoyable read. I heart Audrey!

Angieville: AUDREY, WAIT!,
By
This review is from: Audrey, Wait! (Hardcover)
My friend Karen has been trying to get me to read AUDREY, WAIT! for the last few months and I was happy it popped up this time around. I really had meant to read it when it came out in 2008 and the host of favorable reviews spurred me on, but somehow it got lost in the shuffle. I knew just the very basic premise of the book and I knew it involved a lot of great rock music--always a plus--and something about the title just sort of grabs you, doesn't it? I'm also a fan of the original hardback cover. I think the swirling neon colors surrounding the girl with her head flung to the side combine to form a good representation of the sort of eye of the pop culture hurricane Audrey finds herself in in this story.
Audrey never thought that breaking up with her high school boyfriend Evan would land her in such hot water. Evan is the lead singer of a local band and Audrey has been his support system for too long. Every ounce of energy either of them have gets sucked into "the band" and Audrey's decided it's high time to cut the cord and let both of them move on. But Evan is floored by the news. He calls out to her to wait as she walks out the door, but Audrey feels it's best to make a clean break. She doesn't turn back. And, in that moment, everything changes. Evan writes a song that night entitled, "Audrey, Wait!" And the song goes viral. Before she realizes it, Audrey's song is being played on local stations, Evan and the band have an agent, they head out on tour, and everyone on the planet it seems knows her as that girl who inspired that hit song. Things only spiral further out of control from there. Audrey's parents struggle to keep her safe, while her best friend Victoria expresses her support by attempting to capitalize on all the free publicity and sponsorship tossed Audrey's way. Meanwhile Audrey would like to just hide from it all, keep her head down, and work at her after school job at the Scooper-Dooper with her socially challenged, co-worker James, who seems blissfully unaware she has become an international music icon. But the song's growing fandom (and their intense focus on Audrey) will have none of that. And the possibility of a "normal" life just keeps growing further and further away. First off, Robin Benway's setup is just fantastic. Great title, great idea, great chapter titles, each of them a single line from a famous song and most of them ones that I know and love. Just try to wipe the grin off my face when I start a chapter headed by a line from Stars' "Your Ex-Lover is Dead" or anything by Belle & Sebastian or The Velvet Underground. I found myself giggling through many of the early pages and I liked Audrey just fine. She really did feel like a normal girl thrown into insanely unforeseen circumstances. I liked that Evan was never really the Bad Guy. He had his heart broken. Legitimately. And he's the lead singer of an indie band. What else is he supposed to do? Of course he writes a song about it. And, as the best songs are inspired by acute emotional pain, it was a hit. Audrey and Evan are separated by the whole fame thing almost instantly and when they finally do talk again, I enjoyed their conversations immensely. Another thing I enjoyed immensely was Scooper-Dooper perpetual employee of the month James. He was the cause of most of my giggles throughout the book and he is a great example of a good guy worth swooning over. It was very gratifying to watch Audrey realize this about him. Also, one particular scene set in a walk-in freezer was particularly enjoyable. The thing that was not the source of any giggling for me was her best friend Victoria. It turns out I am excessively tired of the perky, extroverted best friend who is solely there for comic relief and often doesn't seem to get the main character that well, certainly not the way I think a best friend should. Victoria kept pressuring Audrey to do things she didn't want to, to take advantage of the situation in ways that made her extremely uncomfortable, and, in the end, after the inevitable big fight occurs, Audrey (who I thought was in the right the entire time) ends up giving in, apologizing, and begging forgiveness and it just felt wrong to me. That said, AUDREY, WAIT! is a light and funny look at the way a single, seemingly inconsequential decision can balloon out to change your entire life and, as such, I enjoyed it.

Fun!,

This review is from: Audrey, Wait! (Mass Market Paperback)
After a long time I picked up a book to read and what a pleasant surprise it was!
Although, the premise is a little far-fetched, all credit goes to the author for making the story fun while infusing some elements sure to be found in any teenage girl's life. Audrey is just a normal teen living a typical happy-go-lucky life, when she decides to break-up with her boyfriend. The break-up inspires the boyfriend to immediately write and sing a song along with his band. To Audrey's horror, the song happens to be good and quickly starts rising up the charts. With the Band's success, Audrey finds unexpected fame and her life quickly spirals out of control. In the midst of all the madness, Audrey struggles to continue living her old life. She leans on her best friend, parents and new cute boyfriend James for support and yearns to be `normal' again. What follows is how she learns to handle her new fame, take control of the situation and deal with the good and the bad that comes with it. I'd like to mention that I was very happy to read about the relationship Audrey shares with her parents. I liked that she could talk about anything she wanted with her parents and knew that she could depend on them. They share an honest warm relationship. And I loved the references to different songs at the start of each chapter! Though I barely knew any of them, the lines were nice to read. I was really happy I read this book and it's something I'd definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a light fun read.

Fun and FULL of Energy!,
This review is from: Audrey, Wait! (Hardcover)
In this terrific debut by Robin Benway, main character Audrey breaks up with her musician boyfriend...and becomes famous when he writes a song about her. I loved the premise of this YA novel before I even picked it up, and now that I've finished, it's the voice that I think I'll remember the most. Benway captures teen-talk beautifully, in all its hilarious, high-energy, high-drama glory. Audrey and her best friend Victoria seem talk so fast sometimes it makes my head spin, but that's what makes the personality and humor of this book shine through. It's funny, full of music, fast-paced, and a fabulously fun ride.
Audrey, Wait! is not one of those YA novels I'd recommend for most middle school kids -- the characters are older, city-smart high school students, so their language and the situations they find themselves in reflect that. As a result, this is a better choice for older teens who love high-energy, fast-paced realistic fiction and music.

a MUST-READ!!,
By TeenLitGirl "Casey" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Audrey, Wait! (Hardcover)
I just finished reading AUDREY, WAIT!, and I can honestly say that it was one of the most enjoyable books I've read in a long time, with one of the most loveable characters. The main character, Audrey, dumps her boyfriend at the start of the novel -- and almost immediately is thrust into the world of fame when the ex writes a hit song about her.
This book is so much fun for a lot of reasons -- number one, Audrey is hilarious. She's spunky and fun and cool. Number two, even though Audrey's situation is abnormal, Audrey's just your average girl, and is really easy to relate to. I quickly became attached to her character, and I literally read this book in one sitting. This is also a fun novel for music lovers. I would highly recommend AUDREY, WAIT! to anyone looking for a fun, funny read that's also well-written and has emotional depth.

Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway,
By Vintage Bookworm (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Audrey, Wait! (Hardcover)
Also reviewed on my blog, the Vintage Bookworm. ([...])
Audrey, Wait! was the perfect book for my need of a good contemporary. I had read so many books that had magical themes in it, that I just needed a good "fluffy" read. I didn't want to put this one down. Why did I wait so long to read this again? I was hooked in by the first page. I wanted to know about this song and what happened to Audrey after her ex-boyfriend, Evan, wrote this song about her. I needed to know! I sat in bed a couple of nights reading this book for at least an hour before going to bed. Somedays I would even wait to read any of it until I was in bed, just so I could save it! But then I kept saying "oh just one more chapter" over and over again until I was nearly finished, and then just stayed up a little bit longer to finish it. The characters in this book are hilarious. Seriously. I love Audrey and all her sarcasm, and I love the relationship she has with her parents. I want her parents! Protective, but understands her sarcasm, most of the time. And James, I loved all his dorky cuteness. He was such a nerd at times, but oh so sweet! I wanted to find the ice cream shop he works at and give him a big hug! Victoria. Oh what can I say about Victoria? Who is Audrey's best friend, who I absolutely loved but wanted to strange so many times over the fact that she wasn't getting Audrey's feeling on the whole famous thing. Audrey did not want to be famous, yet Victoria was loving having a friend who is the subject of that new popular song EVERYONE is listening to. And Victoria's boyfriend rocked! Just sayin'. All the characters in this book have amazing depth. Each one had their own fleshed out personalities. Everything felt real, and that is what makes a great story. The writing was fun to read and flowed well. And I loved the new song at the beginning of each chapter. =) Overall, very fun read. If you haven't read this yet (I think I may actually be one of the last people on here to read it. I'm so late!) do it NOW! Don't wait until later. Take a break from all the awesome fantasy and read a contemporary.

I'm picking up good vibrations, she's giving good vibrations,
This review is from: Audrey, Wait! (Hardcover)
AUDREY, WAIT! is definitely mind-bogglingly good as others have said! Usually I can breeze through the really awesome books, anxious to finish them, but for this book I actually had to slow down because everything was just too awesome to take in all at once! No review can fully prepare you for the awesomeness that is Audrey. She may be the coolest main character that I have ever met - a great sense of sarcastic humor, a joy for PSAT words such as brouhaha (I think this quirk is what made me fall in love with this book), an unpredictable sense of style, and a streak of mischief and mayhem.
I admit the scenarios got a little weird as Audrey become ridiculously more and more famous from the runaway hit song. I don't know how Robin got her ideas of how to handle Audrey's fame in terms of attending school, staying employed at an ice cream parlor, and going out on dates - but let me tell you, each and every scenario just kept getting better and better! After reading about Audrey's experience, I am definitely glad that I was not in her shoes (figuratively speaking, but I did want a pair of turquoise boots!). I could go on and on about this book (or simply re-read it again!)! But seriously, what are you waiting for? Go and find this book so you can see why AUDREY, WAIT! is such an awesome book!

A Laugh Out Loud MUST READ!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Audrey, Wait! (Mass Market Paperback)
I LOVED this book. At first, i was hesitant to read it, but after reading an excerpt from it, i knew immediately that i just HAD to read it. I knew i was going to like it from the excerpt and i was right. Probably, the only book that i've read(and trust me, i have read A LOT of books) that had me laughing from start to finish. definitely recommend this book to anyone. I was reading it in school and i tried so hard not to laugh because my classmates were staring at me. I'm sure they thought i was crazy because i was smiling idiotically reading a book. A MUST READ! YOU WILL LAUGH OUT LOUD. I GUARANTEE IT!
