This review is from: Audubon 1042HP Equinox HP 10x42 Binoculars (Lawn & Patio)
These binoculars are among the best optics for the price, unfortunately Audubon does not guarantee them. I have contacted the company many times and they don't respond.

On the non-HP version, the lens straps were rubber and tore through almost immediately. The ocular falls off if you have to adjust the focus too often. And the most annoying problem encountered immediately was the collapsing eye cups. This was a problem when the bins were brand new. As soon as I bought these I ended up having to put rubber bands under the cups to hold the them open.

It is a real shame because these really could be the best binoculars for birding and butterflying, but I can't afford to replace them every year or so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, June 10, 2007

This review is from: Audubon 1042HP Equinox HP 10x42 Binoculars (Lawn & Patio)
As a field biologist I have owned more than a dozen pairs of binoculars in my life. I once owned a pair of Zeiss military binoculars that had a grid in the right optic. Those are probably the finest binoculars I could recommend, if price were no obstacle, and if you could find a pair these days. Mine were stolen, and I was unable to replace them. After a long tour of the Middle East I gave away a pair of Leitz Trinovid binoculars, probably top-of-the-line at the time, to a colleague there and have never been inclined to spend so much for binoculars since. Binoculars are stolen. They are lost, or damaged. I had a fine set of Bushnell "bino-photo" binoculars early in my career. I dropped them under my horse, and they were ground into the turf. In recent years I have been happy with a couple pairs of Cabelas binoculars for routine use. My wife and I have been carrying small REI roof prism binoculars for daily use, because of their convenient size. Recently we have been doing a great deal of tropical birding, so began researching "serious" binoculars with a better field of view, greater light transmission, waterproof with reduced fogging tendencies. We considered dozens of models, and everything pointed to these as the best "bang for the bucks." We ordered one pair and were so impressed we bought a second. We can only endorse the claims of Audubon and the manufacturer. These are very comfortable and functional with amazing optics, equivalent to a good set of Zeiss or Leica (Leitz) binoculars at a fraction of the cost. We particularly like the structure of the eyepieces.
