4.0 out of 5 stars Great record book for every life-listing birder
This book is exactly what every life-lister needs. Sure, the rare visitors aren't included, but that's a very small deficit. I suggest making your entries in pencil, because after a few years you will run out of room for some birds worth noting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Audubon Life List Journal - Great Gift for the Birder
The Audubon Life List Journal makes for a wonderful gift for the birder. The print type and color pages are beautifully crafted. The Audubon Life List Journal makes for a wonderful gift for the birder. The print type and color pages are beautifully crafted. The book includes the most common birds of North America, but for the serious birder, the book lacks some of the more uncommon bird species one may encounter. For example, the Jabiru is an occasional visitor to Texas but there is no mention of it. Compared to a house sparrow, this would be a "memorable" sighting and more space alloted for unusual sightings would have been preferable. Furthermore, the book has no blank pages dedicated for other birds not listed in the text. Overall, though, this is a nice gift for the birder.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice book but not what I really need, January 23, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I received this book as a gift. It is a fine piece of work -- sturdy, well-organized, plenty of room to record sightings. HOWEVER -- what I REALLY NEED, and what I cannot find anywhere, is a birding life list that is:
-- spiral bound
-- small enough for field use, i.e. no bigger than 4" X 6"

This journal definitely is NOT for field use. I now use a compromise system -- there is a company named Rite-in-the-Rain who produces spiral notebooks of all sizes and configurations with water repellent paper. I carry one of these with me and record my observations which I then transfer to this journal -- the journal stays at home.

3.0 out of 5 stars oversized checklist, July 20, 2007

Oops, perhaps I missed the dimensions statement? I expected a lifelist I could pack for an outing, I received a large, cumbersome book! Other than that, it works -- plenty of room to describe sightings and interactions with every bird in the US!
