A wonderful keepsake reader's edition of a classic collection of wildlife observations,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Audubon Reader (Everyman's Library) (Hardcover)
Richard Rhodes is the author of more than twenty works of history and fiction, winning many awards: his biography of John James Audubon appeared in 2004 and this companion reader is a wonderful survey of Audubon's own colorful writings about the American wilderness. Rhodes edits and gathers the best of Audubon's own voice, providing an anthology spiced with full-color reproductions of sixteen of his watercolors. The result is a wonderful keepsake reader's edition of a classic collection of wildlife observations.

I had not realized what a charming writer Audubon was. This is a superb selection of his writing as well as letters from his wife and other family members and friends. This book offers a glimpse of a vanished time in the United States when parrots were abundant, the passenger pidgeons still flew, and people were quite innocent in their butchery of animals. This edition includes some lovely colored Audubon prints. The Audubon Reader (Everyman's Library)
