4.0 out of 5 stars very good, but the VCR counter index is obsolete now, September 13, 2003
This review is from: Audubon Society's VideoGuide to 247 Birds of North America Volume I Water, Prey and Scratching Birds (DVD)
When I first got this video tape, it was perhaps the best thing on the market to help any bird enthusiast or any curious person identify birds not only by their calls, but by their behavior, wing markings, migration patterns and the differences between males and females. This first volume concentrates on birds of prey, water birds and chicken like birds.

The video comes with a species index which numbers all of the birds and leaves a space for the counter number from the VCR (only the older VCRs have them). Each individual bird is profiled separately giving the bird's scientific name, its range (for all seasons), playing its call or song and showing various still and moving pictures of it in flight, on the ground or in the water. The narrator talks about each bird's behavior and things to watch out for like how not to mistake a particular bird for a similar species.

I purchased the whole series of the Audubon Society's Videoguides to Birds of North America (I-V) over ten years ago yet I still refer back to them from time to time whenever I hear or see interesting birds which I can't identify.
